He kissed the top of my head. “I don’t know how I’m going to leave today,” he whispered.

We both knew he would. He fell back to sleep, and I eased out from under him and out of the bed. I went to the bathroom and had a quick shower, and put on my clothing for my casual workday, denim jeans and blue turtleneck.

I had a thought on what to get him to remember me, but what do you give a man that has everything? I sighed as I packed my backpack. When I reached the closet, I found my dress, freshly dry cleaned hanging there.

I grinned.Jonas, ever considerate. I took out a pair of panties, took off a ribbon from the basket, and tied a bow.

I walked over to the desk and wrote a short note.

I know this is may seem silly, but I hope you appreciate the gesture.

Thank you for the last few days. Tiger Lily.

Jonas suddenly appeared in the room in his robe, his gaze seeking me. My breath caught as I took in his beauty. I pondered how long he would have that effect on me.

Whether he noticed me in his briefcase, he didn’t acknowledge. “I’m going to get dressed. Breakfast should be here any minute,” Jonas said, then turned and went inside the bathroom.

The door sounded and I went to open it, flushing as the waiter smiled broadly at me and went about setting up the table. Eggs benedict, hollandaise, winter fruit, and coffee. Jonas came out in a robe and signed the sheet, then went back inside the bathroom. The pull to go back in there with him was great, but I held myself back in self-preservation.

Jonas returned after a few minutes dressed as casually as I had ever seen him, a black shirt and denim jeans. His black hair was messy, sweeping across his forehead. His eyes fixed on me as he closed the distance and pressed a kissed to my lips and beyond, filling my mouth with the taste of mint.

“Did you sleep well?” Jonas asked as he poured us coffee.

I nodded, my throat closed to speech. I ate a few bites of the eggs and sipped the coffee.

“Thank you for everything,” I said, my voice sounding thick.

Jonas put his fork down and opened his arms and I immediately stood and let him place me on his lap and cuddled me.

“Lily, I’m finding this difficult too,” He said slowly, as he stroked my back.

He was? I let my head rest on his shoulder and inhaled his fresh scent.

He kissed the side of my face. “I’ll be back in New York after going to Texas and a short trip to Seattle. I want to see you again.”

I nodded. “I want that too.”

Jonas fed me and him our breakfast and then stood me on my feet.

“I have a surprise for you.” Jonas walked out of the room and into the bedroom and rolled in a black leather designer trolley bag.

My eyes dilated and I shook my head. “Jonas no. You shouldn’t have.”

Jonas pressed his lips together. “It’s done and it’s here. Do you like it?”

I stood and walked over to him and leaned up and kissed his lips. “Yes. But—”

“Then that’s all that matters,” he said, cutting me off. The corners of his mouth turned up. Before I could respond, the door sounded. He strolled over and David was there, along with a bell person to collect our things.

“Pumpkin time,” I muttered.

Jonas held my hand as we walked out the door and to the elevator, through the lobby, check out, and to the door of his Bentley. He pulled me into his arms and held onto me all the way from the Waldorf Astoria to the Arch building. These actions were more than I had ever imagined a companion would be, but I didn’t protest. I wanted and needed it and he was willing to give it to me.

My breathing labored as the door opened. I had managed to hold it together up until we stopped.

“David will take you home tonight. So you don’t need to bring anything,” Jonas said.

I shook my head. “I have a work dinner with Gregor.”
