His jaw tightened. “Where?”

I bit my lip. “Gregor usually drops me….” The words died on my lips as the tension rose between us. “Sophie’s.”

Jonas turned and gave instructions to David, who nodded to me. “I want you safe, and knowing David will take you home eases me.”

My insides warmed. He cares.I didn’t have the time to think on it though.

I curled my chin under and waved. “Thank you. Jonas. Thanks for everything.”

“Let me walk you inside,” Jonas said tucking my hair behind my ear, then stroking down my neck.

I chewed my lip. “No, I think I will fall apart if you do.”

Jonas sighed. He kissed my cheek. “We’ll continue our conversation tonight.”

I plastered a smile and looked up at him. “Yes. I look forward to it.”

He gasped, then kissed me lightly on the lips. “Thank you for your smile, Tiger Lily.”

I lifted my brows. “No Shakespeare?” I joked.

He stared intently at me and didn’t say anything for a few heartbeats.

He then whispered, “I’ll have something for you tonight.”

I licked my lips and said, “Parting is such sweet sorrow—”

“That I shall say goodnight till tomorrow. Let’s discuss that tonight.” Jonas kissed me again, this time crushing his lips to mine.

When we broke apart, I giggled. “Public affection from Jonas Crane.”

Jonas leaned against my forehead and breathe in. “I’m finding you impossible to resist.” he said softly, then kissed my cheek.

My eyes filled, and I dropped my head. What was I doing?

He pulled me in a tight embrace. “I feel it too, Lily,” he soothed. “I’ll call you tonight.” He winked at me then climbed inside the car.

Covering my mouth, I watched his car pull off down the street. He was gone and I wasn’t sure when I would see him again. Once the car turned the corner, I walked inside the office and ran straight into the bathroom. Locking myself inside a stall, I sunk down on the seat and cried.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Once I wasempty, I numbly splashed water on my face and walked back to my desk. I turned on the computer and sent off a few emails to some of our clients. Taking an extra fifteen minutes over lunch, I made it to black light spin class at the corporate gym. The vigorous exercise combined with the blaring techno music helped to quiet my thoughts and worries over when I might see Jonas again. Halfway through the chicken salad I brought back to eat at my desk, my phone chimed. My pulse increased as I sought to pick it up, but in my hurry managed to drop it on the floor. Calm down. Picking it up, I sighed as I looked at the name on display and answered. Gregor.

“Can I tell you who the star at the conference was?” Gregor trilled.

I groaned, then laughed in the phone. “You were, and I’m not surprised. No one works a room like you.”

“That’s what was missing from this conference. I was Conan without Andy. I should have taken you along with me.”

I played with the ends of my hair. “Perhaps next time.”

“I’m getting ready to board. I’ll be at the office at 6:00. Would you mind calling Sophie’s?”

I smiled. “Done. I did that a few days ago.”

“Great. I’m up for a few cocktails to celebrate. We can afford our car service to take you back to Jersey tonight. They are calling us to board.”
