“That’s alright, I have a ride home. See you soon.” I hung up.

I looked at the clock. Jonas would be landing in a few hours. Would he call me? I hated the need that arose in me. Turning back to my computer, I tried to throw myself back into work.

I finally turned my computer off at 6:00 p.m. Gregor would be here any minute to collect me. I ran my hands down my shirt and jeans. My mind turned to Jonas. He had landed at least four hours ago, but he hadn’t sent me a text or called me. I worried over our morning and last night. Was I too clingy last night? Did he decide I wasn’t mature enough for him? A weirdness pressed in my chest at the thought of not hearing from him again.

“Lily.” I was so lost in thought that I didn’t realize Gregor had come and was standing behind me. I turned around to face him and smiled. He was just as messy as me, in his grey pullover and denim jeans. My brow raised at the trim to his loose hanging bob and the weird look on his face as his green eyes met mine.

Gregor cursed and folded his arms. “You had sex with him already?” His voice went up at the end, and I felt bad.

My skin burned as I struggled to school my face. “What? How did you… I’m. Yes.” I dropped my head.

He tugged my ponytail. “We’ll talk about it.”

I shook my head. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

“I’ll buy you a Long Island Iced Tea and we’ll talk about it,” Gregor said. Then he took a breath. “I need to talk to you about it.”

“What, so you can make me feel bad?” My voice was small and I rubbed my stomach.

“I’m not trying to shame you,” Gregor said diplomatically. “I just know you and I know him. So I think you need some perspective.”

I shutdown my computer. “Okay.” Standing, I picked up my phone and placed it in my handbag. As I was putting on my coat, my phone chimed alerting me that I had a new text message. I beamed in delight as I read the screen.Jonas Crane.

The second I got here I got pulled into meetings.

I sighed in relief.

“I’ll be right back,” Gregor said, walking to his office.

“Okay,” I called, then went back to my text and quickly replied.

I thought about you all day. Did you find anything out of the ordinary in your case?

A new text came in before I could put my phone away. I grinned as I read his message, hearing his voice in my mind.

Oh yes. I will have to show you just how much I appreciated it the next time I’m in town.

When will that be?I replied.

I stared at the screen until Gregor came back from his office and motioned for me to follow him. I fell in place and we took the elevator to the ground floor and walked out the building. My phone finally beeped and I looked at it as we walked down the street.

A couple of weeks. Possibly less.

I sighed.

Okay. I have dinner with Gregor now. I’ll talk to you later?

“It’s rude to text on your phone the whole time,” Gregor quipped. I exhaled and fell back into step.

Yes. David will be there until you leave. Talk to you later.

As we approached the white brick and glass building that housed Sophie’s, I spotted David and Jonas’s Bentley. He’s so considerate.I beamed as I waved to David, then followed Gregor inside the bar restaurant. The host set us at a small cloth table. Gregor pulled back my cushy beige and dark wood chair and took the seat across from me. The place was not as full as it would be in an hour with a steady flow of the after-work suit crowd walking in and settling near the oak bar upfront. The cedar flooring and oversized seating gave it a lounge atmosphere. A waitress came over and took our order. We both ordered burgers and Long Island Iced Teas. When she walked away, Gregor turned to me and blew out.

“I saw the car. So tell me what happened?” Gregor asked.

I flushed and shrugged. “Well, it’s nothing really. Just casual. That’s it.”

The waitress brought over our drinks and we both sipped for a few minutes.
