“Jonas.”

He stood there, a vision in a dark designer suit that tailored his frame impeccably. His crisp white shirt stood out from his tanned skin. His black hair was a little longer than I remembered a month ago, and fell back in waves, showing off an uninterrupted view of his prominent cheekbones and sensual, full mouth. As I met his eyes, our connection sparked, sending a shiver through me. His eyes turned stormy as he scanned me from head to toe. A frown deepened on his face with every step. I casted my eyes down. My heart beating hard against my ribcage as I waited for him to close the distance between us. My eyes followed his polished leather shoes out of the corner as he stopped behind me, trailing his hands down the side of my face and to my neck before settling them on my shoulders.

“What have you done to yourself, my Tiger Lily?”

I shuddered and closed my eyes.His. I could have wept. All I wished I could be.

“I don’t know what I want to do to you more,” he continued, his voice strained. “Scold or hold you. I’ll decide later.”

“Jonas Crane.”

We both turned, and Gregor was standing in his doorway.

“Gregor,” Jonas said.

He started to move his hands away, but paused as my body lifted up, not ready to part from his touch. He walked in front of me, and I trembled as his hand grazed my chin. I could avoid and deny all I wanted, but in front of Jonas, I was lost to him.

“I’m here to pick up Lily,” Jonas said authoritatively, his body stiffening.

Their polite discomfort added to the whispers buzzing around the floor.

My face warmed as I looked at Gregor, willing him to privacy.

“How about the three of us step inside my office?” Gregor asked diplomatically.

Jonas’s jaw ticked, but he said, “Yes. That’s a good idea.”

Jonas took my hand, helping me to my feet, and I stumbled.

“This will have to be quick.”

The concern in his voice had me looking up at him. His face was stricken and my heart stuttered. He placed his hand on the small of my back, and I looked around us. The whole floor was now crowded around. Jonas followed my gaze and came to the realization this wasn’t the place to cause a scene. He straightened, putting his mask back in place along with his body language that exuded confidence.

“Yes, of course,” Gregor said.

We walked into his office and Gregor closed the door.

Jonas guided me to take one of the seats. He removed a pile of books from the second seat before he sat down, resting his hand possessively on my knee. My head turned to Gregor, eyes wide with questions, the first of which being whether he would let his hatred of Jonas turn into a fight here.

He shook his head and winked at me. “It’s fine, Lily. I just want to speak with him,” Gregor said assuredly.

I let go of the breath I had been holding.

Gregor turned his attention to Jonas. “Dani informed you about—”

“Declan. Yes, she did. I just learned about it today,”

The hurt and disappointment in his voice had me hunching in my seat. His hand touched my back and pressed in, feeling along my ribs. He cursed under his breath.

“I want you to know that Lily is very important to me as an assistant and as a friend. I don’t want her to be hurt in any way. So tell me what your intention is,” Gregor said.

“Gregor….” My voice cracked. Risking Jonas as a client was not something Gregor could, or should, do. For the sake of Arch, he needed this win.I ruin everything I touch.“I’m sorry, Jonas. Gregor didn’t mean that. He….”

“Meant every word of it… and that’s okay.” Jonas tilted his head. “Gregor has his feelings about the past, and I have mine. But it’s important for him to know that my intention for you is between us.”

Gregor jutted his chin, his eyes shifted to me. “Is this what you want to do, Lily?”

I licked my lips. “Yes,” I whispered.
