“You as well, Ben.” Isabelle gave him a cute little wave and smile.

The privacy window was already closed when we got inside the Mercedes.

Isabelle turned her head toward me. “Is Ben married?”

Oh, my lord. I shook my head and laughed.

“I’m serious.” She flicked her eyes toward the driver’s seat. “He’s got a bit of danger about him.”

“What? After meeting him for two seconds?”

She shrugged. “When you know, you know. I bet Ben does martial arts. He’d give a goodworkout.”

“And we complain about men.”

“So? Men are not here to criticize.”

We both laughed.

“Sophie mentioned a blond man with Mr. Crane?”

“Gunnar?” I blanked my face. He helped my family, so I didn’t want to bad-mouth him.

“Is that his name? Sounds Nordic. Is he dating anyone?”

“I don’t think so, but I don’t know him. He’s a lawyer, very blunt.”

“She said he was good-looking.”

How would Sophie know? Gunnar left immediately. And she was too busy flashing Paul.

“You look like you’re afraid to speak. Is Gunnar an asshole or something?”

Gunnar was an asshole, but a good lawyer. In fact, seeing him in his element—when I wasn’t the one he was targeting—he was actually quite impressive.

“I only met him a few times, but if you’re serious, I’ll pass on your interest to Paul.”

“Hmm, maybe not. I don’t want to make things weird. I’ll give Ben my number. He’s rotating and a bodyguard, so he knows how to keep his mouth shut; you’ll never know.”

We arrived at the Hudson, and I waited for Isabelle in the elevator while she talked with Ben. It also gave me a chance to think. Isabelle seemed well informed. It was like Sophie took inventory. And it made me feel more nervous. With the press around, I needed to be careful.

Isabelle returned bouncing on her heels. “Ben said that he had to leave, but he seems nice.”

“Yes, he is, I really like him,” I murmured and unlocked the elevator to the penthouse floor then waved goodbye to Sam at the front desk.

“He’s a bit too shy for me though.”

I wasn’t sure if Isabelle wasn’t interested or didn’t want me to think she was, but the door closed, and we rode to the top.

Her jaw unhinged as we walked inside.

“Whoa. Sophie wasn’t exaggerating. This placeisspectacular.”

I followed her through the living room, kitchen, and swimming area.

“Jesus, this is huge.” When she entered the studio, she cried, “This is insane!” She turned on the television and typed in the computer database like an expert. “Do you mind? I should’ve asked you first.”

I nodded. “It’s fine.”
