I told him about Mom making me take the test at home and about me vomiting several times.

“You always vomit when you’re stressed,” he said, and I hugged him.

“That’s what I said.”

“But let’s do a quick test anyway.” He opened a drawer and pulled out a pregnancy test.

I shot him a look. “You have a test lying around in your room?”

He shrugged. “When I’m with women, I like cream pies, and it sounds like Paul does, too.”

I just looked at him, puzzled.

“Damn, do I have to spell it out? Paul likes to come inside of you, releasing his cream into your pie.”

“Cream pies….? Oh,” I said and touched my hot face.

“You’re still blushing with a bun in the oven.”

I pushed his arm. “Don’t joke.”

“Seriously,” Xander sat down with me and took my hands. “Did you talk about what happens if you’re pregnant with Paul’s baby?”

I slumped my shoulders and nodded. “Paul wants a baby, but not with me. He wants a child with an anonymous donor and surrogate.”

Xander blew out his breath. “With all those contracts he makes you sign, he may fight for full custody and rights. I don’t know anyone in New York City that will fight a Crane. I know that’s harsh, but you should come to terms with that fact before anything else.”

I gulped. Paul was pretty clear last night about where he stood. The child would be his alone. He didn’t trust relationships would last.

I let go of his hands and pulled my legs up, resting my chin on my knees. “So what can I do?”

“Take another test.” He handed the test to me, and I went into the bathroom and used it. While we waited, I filled Xander in on life back at home.

“Agata is your mom. She wants to protect you, but birds have to leave the nest sometimes. She couldn’t exactly expect you to dump a hot as fuck billionaire. She should stay out of it and let the relationship run its course.”

“Right. Paul will dump me sooner or later, anyway.” A sharp pain hit my chest, and I turned my head to stare at the stacks of hat boxes in Xander’s room.

“Nadia, I’m only saying that so you can protect yourself. First loves are not easy. Remember mine?”

Xander’s wasn’t. He rarely ever cried, but he did when his first relationship ended. I stayed with him through it, and even though I didn’t experience his heartache, I felt for him.

“I get that, Xander. I’ll be careful.”

“Sure, you will.” He teased and placed a hat on my head.

I walked over to a mirror to look at myself.A fedora? Not too bad. “Oh, there’s more to tell you. Apparently, being Paul’s makes me attractive to other daddies. I even received my first marriage offer from his cousin.” I told him in a sarcastic tone.

“What in the actual fuck?” Xander blurted.

“His cousin Gunnar tried to buy me off for three million and an apartment. When I refused, he put me down and offered to marry me. Even said I could become a high-priced call-girl. Such an asshole.”

“Sounds it. But it also sounds like Gunnar tested you to see what it would take to make you leave him. I bet you’re getting a pay raise, darling,” he drawled, changing his plain T-shirt for a printed one.

But Paul didn’t know what Gunnar would say. Then again, Gunnar might have tested his other women he had arrangements with in the past.

I frowned. “Why would I get more money?”

“Because Paul knows other men want you. He’ll go all caveman; no one can take what belongs to him. He’s old-school.”
