Hmmm. Paul did freak out.

“Gunnar is an asshole, but right about one thing. If you decided to become an escort, you would be in a class of your own. Hell, in just a couple of years and with the right clientele, you could fund your line.”

I grimaced. “No way will I ever do it.”

A part of me wanted to tell Xander ahead of time what Paul and I planned about our relationship, but I wasn’t ready because I didn’t know how things would go since we were just back together.

Xander groaned. “I know you won’t. You’re in love with Paul Crane. But, hell, everyone is a little bit. He gave me all his focus when he talked to me like everything I said was important. That kind of attention is addicting.”

“You don’t know the half of it….”

“Test check.”

My pulse jumped in my throat as we peered at the test.

No second line!

I screamed a loud cheer and Xander joined me. We danced around to celebrate, and all the tension I carried around with me left me.Thank God.

We returned to the room and fell back on his bed, and relief washed over me, and awareness of my surroundings. This bed smells like sex.Somehow, I missed that the first time.

“Xander.” I jokingly admonished.

He gave me a mischievous grin. “Yep. We’re both getting it. But hey, I think I saw Justus Black under the Rockin’ the Free World list of artists on Madison Square Garden’s website for a show.” He double-checked the information on his phone. “He’s playing with The Melancholy Bros and Moody Mondays in a couple of weeks. Maybe Paul could give us backstage tickets?”

I told Xander in high school that Nora had claimed Justus Black was my father, but we both dismissed it as a groupie dream. But now….

“I can ask him.” I texted him about the concert, and his reply came almost immediately.

Paul: I’ll have Nicole give you the tickets. I can’t go with you, but I expect you to behave.

Nadia: What does that mean?

Paul: Be mindful of the press.

“Why are you frowning?” Xander peered at my phone. “Oh, he’s a celebrity. You know he has to be cautious.”

Nadia: I took another test with Xander. It’s negative.

Paul: Not on the phone. But good. I still want you to get a complete checkup with Dr. Foster.

“He’s right. Doctors can screen better.” Xander said, reading over my shoulder.

Nadia: But I thought knowing it’s negative would give you some piece of mind.

Paul: I hope it did the same for you. Thank you. I miss you, baby.

Nadia: I miss you, too.

“Aww, his pet name is ‘baby’ for you. Fitting,” Xander teased.

I pushed him, then called the Peninsula Spa and added a guest. Because I was Paul’s, I received special treatment. And I didn’t hesitate to use it.Mom was right, I had changed, and maybe some of the changes weren’t good. However, Xander was waiting.Another worry for later.“Let’s go.”

Ben drove us to the Peninsula Spa in Midtown. We split up for the massages since I still needed a wax, facial, and nails. By the time we reconnected, I was sleepy. “Come back to my place?”

“Yeah. Fuck it. I’m not going to a regular mattress after I just got rid of all the knots in my shoulders. Damn, do they know how to give a good one here.”

Ben picked us up, and we headed back to the Hudson. We ate salads before collapsing onto the bed in the guest bedroom. It was just as spacious and comfortable as my own, but with only some of the skyline in view. We streamedHarley Quinn, and afterward, Xander took out his laptop. A knock tapped on the door. It was my housekeeper, Opal, who held up an envelope. “From Gunnar Crane.”
