“Hello, uhm. Nice to meet you.” I pulled my hair over my shoulder.

“Don’t worry. Passion is the elixir of life. It’s what’s kept me healthy all these years. I’m Aurora. Paul’s almost second mom.”

“Aurora was Dad’s longest girlfriend after his divorce,” Paul added.

“I’m also the only one that remained a friend,” she said, hugging him. “My five-year-old grandchild Matteo is here and will be delighted to see you. He will be leaving soon so you must hurry.”

Paul and I returned to the car, and he drove past the golf cart Aurora came from, and followed the rest of the cypress lined drive up to a grand contemporary estate.

“Why didn’t you tell me about the welcome dinner and Aurora?”

He smiled. “Because you’d worry unnecessarily.”

My brows furrowed. “Unnecessarily. We were having sex in her vineyard.”

“She’s found me in more compromising positions.”

“But I thought I was the first?” I teased.

“I’m your first.” He pecked my lips. “Anyway, Aurora doesn’t care about that. When I lived in Italy in my early twenties, she looked after me. Mom liked to be a friend, but Aurora was like dad, all about discipline. She made me work harder as a pianist. And just like him, she mellowed.”

The Jonas I met was easygoing, but I also could imagine a rambunctious Paul. I wanted more of their story, but we reached the gate. Surprisingly, Laurence was already there.

“How is it possible?” I asked him.

“Helicopter,” he reminded me. “Did you like Paul’s driving?”

I bit my lip and he laughed.

“Hey,” Paul said to us. “You didn’t mind when we parked.” He kissed my cheek.

“Can we speak for a moment?” Laurence asked Paul.

Paul nodded and kissed me again before handing me off to a housekeeper who led me around the back of the house to a stone and tile building with a patio and balcony. We climbed the stairs to the large bedroom with a beautiful canopy bed and lace white linens. My bags were already open and unpacked. And once again, I was taken aback by all the comforts. It was like being Cinderella brought to live in Prince Charming’s luxuries. Well, not quite like that. Cinderella married Prince Charming. My Charming agreed to date me….

I went into the shower and changed into a simple white dress and sandals. Downstairs, I found Paul tossing a little boy with a head full of curls as he giggled and asked for more.

Aurora approached me and kissed my cheeks. “Nice to meet you officially, Nadia.”

My face warmed. “Thank you for welcoming us into your home.”

“I’m happy to have you and Paul here.” She turned and smiled. “Paul loves children.”

Paul placed him down and Matteo ran over to me and hugged my legs.

“Ciao.” Matteo said and giggled.

I laughed and reached down and picked him up. “Ciao, Matteo.”

He placed his palms on my face and I laughed as I spun him in a circle. I kissed his chubby cheek and he cooed.

“Matteo is a good judge of character. He likes you.”

I liked him too. I bounced him before putting him back on his feet. And looked over at Paul. His expression was unreadable, but then Matteo had my attention again as he ran to a woman wearing an apron who scooped him up and carried him away with Paul following them.

“Are you too tired for a tour?” Aurora asked.

“Not at all. I’d love a tour.”
