My eyes lingered over her face, dragging to her pretty eyes and those full lips. It was even more tortuous now that I knew how it felt to kiss her. I knew how soft those lips were. How they moved with mine and parted for me.

“You know, this could be considered workplace harassment,” she said, only half serious.

“Is it?” I asked, my voice as thick as gravel, rough and scratchy. I took a step closer. “I really need to have HR provide everyone with a refresher course on the topic. Or maybe a memo. Make sure we’re all clear on the rules.”

I was close enough to smell her perfume, that intoxicating mix of floral and citrus.

Amy closed her eyes and when she opened them, that light was back, and she was biting her lower lip. I almost groaned at the sight of it. She was very clearly affected by this close proximity, too.

“No,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Nice shoes,” I said dumbly.

“Thanks,” she murmured, and I took another step closer. The muscles of her throat worked as she swallowed hard. We were barely inches apart. All I had to do was dip my head down and her lips would be on mine.

Or she just had to rise on her tiptoes…

My brain short-circuited when I realized she was actually rising up, her sneakered feet pushing against the ground, and she touched her lips to mine. Tentatively at first, gauging my response. I just stood, stiff as a statue. She pressed them more firmly into mine, and I groaned. I took her face in my hands and seized her lips in the most gratifying connection, nipping lightly at the lower one she was biting just a minute before. I pushed my tongue into her parted lips, finding hers and pressing against it sweetly. I snaked a hand around her waist, drawing her more firmly into mine without breaking contact. Her fingers were raking through my hair, setting off tiny little bolts of electricity through my scalp and… much lower.

“Yes, send me the details.” Auburn's voice drifted in from outside the lab.

We hastily pulled apart, but I still held on to her waist. I stared into her eyes. They were dark with desire. I bent my head and kissed her lightly on the lips. A reminder.

“Later?” I asked.

“Later,” she whispered.

I finally let go, walking out the door as Auburn walked in. I turned back for a final look and she was still standing at the same spot, hand to her lips. She gave me a little wave, and I shot back a wink.

I walked into my office, still feeling a little dazed from what I had just done. Complicating a work relationship with something potentially more personal wasn’t really the right thing to do. Even if it felt so amazing. And I wanted to do it, again and again. I had never wanted a woman so much and certainly a simple kiss had never set me spiraling this much out of control. I felt a frown crease my forehead. I didn't like not being in control; I didn't like strong emotions, whether good or bad, that made me do things out of character. Yet, this particular can of worms had already been opened, and I definitely didn’t regret it.

Worse, I would do it again in the blink of an eye. All Amy had to do was say the word and I’d be downstairs, spreading her out on her desk, worshiping her between her thighs as I clamped a hand across her mouth to keep her quiet.

So, yeah, the kiss definitely left my head spinning.

I threw myself down on the couch in my office as I tried, unsuccessfully, to talk myself out of doing anything more with Amy.

“Bro!” Evan said, walking into my office. “Get off my couch.”

I opened my eyes just enough to glare at him.

“Um, first, it’s my couch. And, no. I need it today. Sit at the table, or lie on the floor. Or better yet, go back to your own job.”

“What crawled up your ass today?”

“What do you mean?”

“Snapping at me is not unusual. But you never just loaf on the couch. You always want to work. You always have something else to do. So what’s going on with you now? Don’t pretend this is about work. This is something different.”

“Thinking,” I said simply.

“Ah,” he said softly, smiling to himself. “Is this about a certain new research lead?”

I didn't object, and that was enough confirmation.

“Yeah, man,” he grinned. “Wait, did something already happen? It’s not like you to just lie around thinking about a crush.”

I shook my head without lifting it from the couch. I couldn’t admit that a kiss–well, two kisses–had me tied up like this. I would never hear the end of it from Evan.
