“I’m coming,” I replied as I rushed out of my room.

“Oh my God!” Cassie exclaimed. “You look totally amazing.”

“I know, right,” I agreed as she laughed.

“Don’t forget shoes, lady,” she snapped.

I hastily put on my nude heels and rushed to the door.

“Here, don’t forget your purse,” she said as she hung the purse strap over my shoulder. “Be back before midnight, Cinderella.” Cassie gave me a quick kiss on the cheek and I was out the door.

Dates were normal to me. I had been on a lot of them, but I was never this nervous. I felt this uneasiness ever since I woke up. It was understandable because this was a lot of pressure. Daniel had told me to not stress over trying to impress his family, but that was impossible. My whole body was telling me not to fuck this up.

“Hey beautiful,” Daniel called out, leaning against his car. It was a sight that sent sparks flying inside me. He looked like a model, and his brown hair showed streaks of red as it glistened under the evening sun. He wore a blue three-piece suit which held his body the way I wanted to. His tie was missing, which was weird because he always wore a tie. He moved toward me and kissed me on the wrist before walking behind me.

“What are you doing?” I asked, full of suspicion.

“You didn’t wear a necklace,” he pointed out.

“Damn, I totally forgot,” I said, touching my collarbone. “Let me go grab one. I’ll be quick.” I started to turn away.

“Don’t bother, it’s perfect,” he said as he wrapped his hands firmly around my waist. I gasped.

“Daniel, Cassie is probably watching,” I pointed out.

“Let her watch,” he said as he ran his hands from my waist up to my neck.

“Daniel!” I exclaimed.

“I have something for you.” His chuckle was low and shot right to the spot between my legs that was aching for his attention again.

“What is it?” I asked curiously as I bit my lower lip.

He fastened a necklace around my neck. I looked down at the delicate pearl resting on my chest.

“Oh, it’s beautiful,” I gasped.

“It was my mother’s. She left a lot of her belongings behind. This was the only piece I had access to. It's special to me… And so are you.”

“Oh, Daniel. Thank you,” I said, fighting back tears as I embraced him tightly. I couldn't believe this.

He helped me into the car, and we started the drive. His father’s house–if that’s what you could call the massive estate–was about thirty minutes away from my apartment. I adored it right from the gate. It looked like a palace. The sun was setting, but that was no problem, as the lamps outside the house illuminated the entire estate. Daniel parked in front of the entrance of the house and we were ushered in by a housekeeper who wore a black and white dress. We were led to the diningroom where there was a massive table that could hold a state dinner.

Daniel had said the purpose of the gathering was to bond, but now I was sure he was being sarcastic because not only was the dining table long, but the chairs were separated with enough space between them to fit another chair. No bonding was possible here.

Two men were already seated. They had an uncanny resemblance, almost as if they were twins. They had to be his brothers, Jamie and Xander. They stopped talking the moment I and Daniel walked in and I immediately felt a different kind of uneasiness when they shot a baleful stare at the two of us.

“Don’t let them get to you. They're just a bunch of children in adult bodies,” he whispered in my ear as he drew the chair back for me to sit.

Daniel had made sure we took the seats farthest from where the two men were seated. It was just the four of us in the large dining room, but about two minutes later, a woman walked in. I was convinced that it was his sister, but I had seen his stepmother. It was possible that the Reed family had access to the fountain of youth. She was immensely beautiful in her black dress which she held by the hem to prevent it from sweeping the ground. It was obvious she loved her jewelry, as she had a piece of it on almost every place where her milky skin showed.

I could tell she was bold just by looking at her walk. She moved toward us with a gracious catwalk and a stern look on her face, suggesting that she was a model. I was impressed. She shunned the two men who had resumed their conversation and walked toward us, flashing a smile at Daniel, who did the same.

“Hi, Amy. Daniel,” she said as she gave a small wave. A lot of questions raced through my mind. First, who was she? How did she know my name? Who was she to Daniel? That smile they shared was definitely suspicious.

“Florence,” Daniel bowed his head. “Why don’t you take a seat?” Daniel waved his hand toward the chair right beside me.

“Daniel has told me a lot about you,” she said, a bright smile taking over her entire face as she sat down. She immediately moved the chair close to me.
