“And when Aunty Minka wakes up,” Aubree sniggers, “you’ll have her, and me,andMiss Sera. Plus Penny! That’s a lot of girl power, huh?”
“So much!” Moo twists on her knees and faces her father. “Can we have the cake before dinner, Daddy? Pleeeeease? Just this one time?”
“Sure, Moo.” Relieved he has a mission, Fletch heads to the kitchen. “We only get birthdays once a year, right? You can absolutely have your cake first. Then we’ll have dinner.” He grins. “Hope everyone is good with hotdogs on a stick.”
“Well, of course.” Chuckling, I twist back to Mia and yank her into my lap. Because I’ve missed her like I’d miss my leg. “I love coming here for dinner, Moo. Uncle Arch doesn’t get hotdogs on a stick unless you’re around.”
“That’s no fair.” She works her little fingers hard to detach her new bear from the cardboard packaging. “You’re a grownup, Uncle Arch. You should have them any day you want. You can pay for them with your money cards.”
A soft smile comes across my lips as I crush her into a tight hug and press a kiss to her temple. “They don’t taste as good without you or Daddy or Aunty Minka. But we’ll have them more, okay?” Now that I’ve got my family back. “Tomorrow and the next day and the day after that. I promise.”
