I slid the skirt down to my feet next, stepping out of it and handing it to Remmo too.

“Just think of all the advantages you’ll have over all the other men when you’re trying to win a mate after this,” I called to him, as I strode to the water. Something about feeling his hot stare on my bare body made me feel more confident, more certain.

“How would this situation be an advantage?” Remmo’s voice strained.

“I already taught you how to kiss!” I exclaimed, stepping a toe into the water and then halting abruptly as a shiver tore through me.

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

That was cold.

“I taught you how to be less awkward around women, too,” I called. “And I’m in the process of training you not to be shocked when you see tits. And vag.”

“I think I’d need a closer look to get a proper lesson,” he called back. “Maybe the next lesson should be on how to bring a woman pleasure? That would really set me above the rest.”

A laugh spluttered out of me. “I think you might just be as snarky as me, Remmo.”

“I’ll cherish the compliment forever, Iloli.” His sarcasm was heavy, and made me grin.

I forced the rest of my foot into the water.

Shit.

Shit.

Shit.

Shit!

That was freakingice.

I continued the conversation to distract myself. “Ill-ole-ee? What does that mean?”

“Your mismatching eyes; it’s a word for someone possessing them.”

I blinked said mismatching eyes. One of them was black, and the other was silver. On Earth, it was called heterochromia, and I definitely hadn’t had it there. I’d thought it was cool when they changed in Vevol, but never thought it meant anything.

He had walked closer, I realized, because his voice was easier to hear over the wind and the lightly-moving water.

“No one’s told me that before,” I admitted.

“The seelies don’t find it significant, so I’m not surprised.”

My foot went numb in the water, but I wasn’t brave enough to stick the other one in.

He remarked, “You’re only putting off the inevitable. Just jump in and all of the discomfort will hit you at once.”

“Rip off the bandaid, you mean,” I mumbled.

“What’s a bandaid?”

“Never mind.” I pushed some hair out of my face. “You’re right. Do the unseelies consider my eyes significant?”

“They do. Jump in the water, and I’ll tell you why.”
