I froze for a second.

This guy? Really?

What do I do?

Have a drink or two?

Go back to his place?

Have meaningless sex?

“You okay?”

“Sorry,” I said. “Yeah. I’m okay. Busy day at work. Trying to relax a little.”

“Don’t let me get in the way,” he said. “Even if I am in the way.”

“Are you just trying to be extra nice to impress me?” I asked.

“I figured it was either that or just whisper into your ear what I want to do with you later.”

My eyes opened wide. “Oh. Wow. You have two very opposite sides then. No middle ground?”

“Middle ground is boring.”

“Fair enough. I’m leaving tomorrow. I have a job I’m doing.”

“Like… a hitman? Or hitwoman?”

“What?” I laughed.

“It’s okay if you kill people. Just not me.”

“Then you better not tell anyone my secret.”

“So I’m in your secret now,” he said. “We’re getting closer by the second.”

“I guess we are,” I said. “Are we going to stand here all night or get a drink?”

“We can drink at the bar or at my place.”

“Now you’re being pushy.”

“That’s not pushy at all,” he said. “I’m such a nice guy, I offer up options.”

“Don’t you know women secretly hate options?” I asked. “That’s why you can’t ask a woman where she wants to go to eat. Too many options. You have to be demanding.”

“Fine,” he said. “You’re going to go say goodbye to your friends. Give them my address so they know where you are. And we’re leaving. Right now.”

I smiled.

My phone vibrated.

Not once. But twice.

I assumed it was Steph texting me.

She loved to watch her friends flirt with guys and then text with critiques.
