Neither was Seb.
I really didn’t fit in with the moment, but I stepped up to the sliding glass doors and waited for them to open.
Once through a second set of sliding glass doors, a bright lobby greeted me.
As did the sight of a small gathering of huge men.
The big and beautiful hockey players all gathered around.
I had no idea how anyone could remain sane near them.
I really didn’t want to sneak up on Seb.
Plus, what do I do?
Tap his shoulder?
Tickle his sides?
Smack his ass?
Playfully bump into him like I don’t know him?
The more I thought about the options the more I felt frozen in place.
Someone nodded their head at Seb and Seb looked back at me.
That’s when he turned and I saw the baby in arms.
I felt everything in my body turn into warm goo.
I had two choices.
Fall to the floor in a turned on mess.
Or…
Fake a phone call to turn around and catch my breath.
I lookedout to the parking lot.
“Yeah, I know what you mean,” I said into my phone.
My phone that was connected to nothing. To nobody.
“I’ll get those ideas and figures by morning,” I said. “Nothing to worry about. We’ll make this work.”
I pulled the phone from my ear and looked down at it.
I touched the dark screen with my thumbs as though something very important was happening.
I swallowed hard.
My body ached. Tingled.
One second it went numb.
The next second…
