Atlas and Hazel both laughed as they walked away with their daughter.

Soon it was just Seb and I standing there.

We looked at each other.

“Ignore them,” he said.

“Have you been saying stuff to them about me?”

“No, April. I haven’t. They’re just gross hockey players.”

“Gross?”

“The thoughts they have.”

“Like?”

“Please,” Seb said. “Sick thoughts. About me with my best friend’s sister.”

I started to smile at the same time as I started to blush.

“I’ll buy you a beer if you want, Seb,” I offered.

“Yeah, thanks. A pity drink to end the season.”

“It’s all over?” I asked.

“That’s it.

“Wow. So what are you going to do now?”

“Not sure yet. There’s options of things I can do. I might just take it easy for once. Focus on the team. Focus on next season.”

“Am I in the way, Seb?”

He laughed.

His laughter echoed through the giant hospital lobby.

He didn’t answer me.

Instead he started to walk away.

I jumped forward and grabbed his right arm.

“I need to get out of here,” he said. “I don’t like hospitals.”

“Answer my question then.”

“Outside.”

We went outside, but Seb had no intention of answering my question.

He started to walk toward his vehicle.

“Seb,” I said. “Answer me!”

He froze. “What’s your plan,Auggie? How long are you going to work with this health bar lady? What do you have to prove?”
