“Seb!” Andy’s voice roared.

Drunk.

“Partying a little, huh?” I asked.

“Oh, man, I’m just living and loving this thing. Bro, I’m so sorry about your season and your team. That’s tough.”

“We were never good enough from the first game of the season.”

“Come over to my team. I’ll get you here. You and me. Man, we’ll set records.”

“I’m good right where I am, Andy. How much have you had to drink tonight?”

“Just a tiny bit,” he laughed. “You know. Not much.”

“Right. You should be getting ready for the first game, right?”

“We’re going to sweep Buffalo,” he said. “Mark my words. We’re running it this year. I can feel it in my bones.”

“I’m cheering you on.”

“You should come to a game,” Andy said. “Fly out. I’ll pay.”

“I have plenty of my own money.”

“So is that a yes?”

“What do I do with your sister?”

Andy laughed. “She’s still hanging around, huh?”

“Well, yeah. Where is she going to go? That one place she looked at was a little sketchy.”

“You really have her there? Damn. She must be in the way, huh? Blocking you out?”

“Don’t worry about that. I’ve got it under control. Everything is good here. Did you call to check up on her? Or just to break my balls that you’re still playing hockey and I’m not?”

“What are you doing with that team over there?” Andy asked. “You don’t even like the role. You’re always on the losing side of a season, brother. That can’t feel good. And don’t tell me about the bank account either. You’ve been paid enough as it is. Plus, you’d get the same salary here. We could afford you. We’re a good team. Winners get the money.”

“I love how you talk as though you own the team, Andy. You’re such a cocky fucking asshole, you know that?”

“That’s who I am!” Andy laughed. “You’ve known that from the day you met me.”

“Yeah. And how many times did I jump in to save your ass?”

“I always held my own.”

“Not when you got jumped that one time for sleeping with Jimmy’s girlfriend.”

“Oh, man! Remember that? That party in the woods was nuts, brother. She was all about it too. She wanted me in a bad way. I was the one who brought a tent. Remember? I told you to bring a tent. What did you and Emily end up doing?”

“I had the bed of my truck,” I said.

Andy laughed. “Man, we were crazy. Jimmy wanted to break my ankles so I couldn’t skate. He would have too. He was nuts.”

“Beyond nuts.”

“You chased him with a goddamn hammer, Seb!”
