I openedthe door for Hazel as she pushed the stroller through.

She looked at me and stuck out her tongue, making an exhausted face.

I grabbed the handle of the stroller.

“Go give your guy a big kiss,” I said. “Let me handle this one.”

“You sure? She’s gassy today.”

“No worries,” I said.

Hazel ran to Atlas and jumped into his arms.

I watched the way he caught her and spun her around.

I thought about the way they found each other and fell in love.

And how the idea of fate made no sense at all because things were so messy and random all the time.

My nose suddenly wrinkled and I looked down at Juniper Evelyn.

Her sweet little face was bright red.

“I’ve been there,” I said to her.

She started to slap her hands and looked ready to cry.

I applied the brakes on the back wheels of the stroller and then gently unhooked the baby from her car seat.

“Careful,” Hazel warned. “She’s a time bomb with the farts.”

“Takes after her father then,” Rome said.

Jago came out of the showers wearing a towel.

He smiled at Hazel.

“Hey there,” he said. “Would it be wrong if my towel accidentally fell?”

“Doesn’t seem like much is holding it up anyway,” Hazel said.

“Cold water in there, Jago?” Atlas asked.

Jago fake laughed and walked away.

I held Juniper Evelyn up and shook my head. “How could this little one be so perfect?”

“Yeah, you figure she’d be ugly as sin like Atlas,” Rome said.

“Gets her looks from her mother,” Hazel said.

“That’s right,” Atlas said.

He and Hazel started to kiss.

“They keep that up and you’re going to be a big sister soon,” I whispered to Juniper Evelyn.

She let out a groaning whine.
