Or maybe I said that to Jago.
There had been a time when I brought everyone from the team out for breakfast.
When life felt heavy, Reggie’s pancakes made things feel better for a second or two.
The walk back to my place was slow and quiet.
April and I held hands. No care in the world.
I ran a lot of scenarios through my head.
The ironic part of the whole thing was it had nothing to do with logistics.
She didn’t live halfway across the world.
I had the entire off-season in my back pocket.
That meant I could crash at her place. For her to repay the favor that I extended by letting her stay with me.
No. There was something else lingering.
We both knew it too.
Every now and again we’d exchange a glance.
All the way back to my apartment.
As soon as I entered the place, I looked right at April’s bags.
I nodded.
It can’t be sad.
I crouched down and grabbed one of the bags and unzipped it.
“Hey, what are you doing?” April asked.
I ignored her.
I stuffed my hand into the bag and pulled out a white bra with laced edges.
“I’ve never seen this one, babe,” I said.
April’s face turned red. “What the hell? Put my bra down, Seb!”
“Sure,” I said.
I dropped it to the floor and stuck my hand inside her bag again.
I dug around and grinned.
“What do we have here?” I asked.
I pulled my hand out and had a pair of yellow panties dangling from my pointer finger.
“Definitely not a thong,” I said. “I would love to see these on you though. With that white bra? Damn.”
April dropped to her knees. “What are you trying to prove right now? Huh?”
