He snapped his fingers and pointed at me. “Keep up the good work right here. This is where you belong.”

He walked to the office door and I blurted out his name.

He turned.

“Can I tell you something?”

“Go for it, April,” Jeff said.

“I think you’re a pompous asshole,” I said. “And, I quit.”

“What did you just say to me?” Jeff asked.

Out of nowhere, Steph poked her head into my office.

“Did you just quit?” she called to me.

“I did,” I said. “Go tell Poppy and Katie.”

“Are we out of here for good?” Steph asked.

“I think so,” I said. “Let’s bury these suit and tie ass wipes.”

“Excuse me!” Jeff barked. He pointed at me. “I don’t think you realize who you’re talking to. I’ll come over there and-”

“You’ll do what?” I asked. Now I ran from behind me desk. Toward Jeff. “You point that finger at me again and I’ll snap it like a pencil.”

“You’re done here,” Jeff said. “I’ll make sure you never work anywhere ever again. Do you understand me?”

Suddenly Jeff was off his feet.

Into the air, against a wall.

I heard Steph cheer.

I did a double take.

What the heck was Seb doing here, about to beat up my soon-to-be former boss?

“You put me down!”Jeff cried.

“You apologize to April then,” Seb said. “What gives you the right to talk to her like that? After all the money she’s made this company. You treat her like this?”

“She quit.”

“Good,” Seb said. “Are you going to apologize or should I rearrange your digestive system so you shit out of your mouth?”

Jeff looked at me. “I’m sorry, April.”

“Sorry for what?” Seb asked.

“Sorry for speaking rude to you. You’re a valued employee here.”

“Ex,” I said. “Ex-employee. I don’t work here anymore.”

Seb put Jeff on his feet.

Jeff fixed his shirt. “You have one hour, April. Then I have to have security come up and escort you out.”
