“No. It’s interesting to see. The whole… famous thing.”
“You’ve seen it with your brother though.”
“All the time,” I said. “If I try to do anything with him, I end up becoming a photographer. It’s annoying. But it’s Andy. I’m used to him and his annoyingness.”
“But you’re not used to mine yet?” Sebastian smirked.
“I don’t think there’s any chance of getting used to you, Seb,” I said.
“That I can drink to,” he said. “Cheers, April. To be being annoying. And to your shitty first day of work.”
As our glasses touched, I felt a sudden rush of excitement.
A voice popped into my head.
A much younger voice of myself.
Ohmygod… Seb bought me a drink!

Andy is going to be so mad about this. But that’s okay. This can be our little secret together.

I sipped my drink and took a deep breath.
I felt my heart starting to race a little faster too.
This suddenly became very intense for me.
There had been way too many times I fantasized about this exact moment.

I went out with Steph, Poppy, and Katie.
Steph insisted on buying me my first drink.
Poppy and Katie got the second and third ones.
I caught myself looking at the door the entire night.
It became so obvious that Poppy pulled me aside and asked if I was okay.
She wanted to know if I had a date planned. Or if I had some secret lover.
None of that was true.
I wish it had been true.
