I laughed. “Still a conceited prick, huh?”

“Can’t help it,” he said. He took a drink of his beer and smacked his lips together. “Now I need to decide on my night. Hang around here and find someone to play with or just get on a jet back to the Sunshine State.”

“Why not both?” I asked.

Andy grabbed my right shoulder. “And that’s why I love you, Seb. You wild man. You still have it. Been a while since we pulled an all-nighter.”

“Is that why you wanted to get a beer? Because I have to admit, I don’t need anyone around me if I decide to enjoy my night.”

“That’s right. You’re the pretty boy who is big and strong.”

“So how’s life, Andy?”

He threw his head back and laughed. “Why do I sense sarcasm there, Seb?”

Second time he’s called me Seb.

Haven’t heard that in a while.

Only a few people in the world ever called me that.

“Andy, we’ve been friends forever. I know the game. If you wanted to get a beer or cause some trouble we could do that anytime we want.”

“Yeah, but I’m in town right now. It just… fits.”

He took another drink of his beer.

I heard the sound of my own voice and looked up to one of the corner television sets.

My post-game interview was being aired.

“Your face looks chubby in high definition,” Andy said. “Or maybe that’s where I punched you.”

“You know, sometimes I miss you, Andy,” I said. “I mean it. I wonder what my life would be like if you were in it every single day.”

“Come to Miami,” he said. “You can play on the third line for me.”

I laughed. “Fuck yourself, Andy. Now what do you want? You never want to get a beer that doesn’t involve a favor.”

“Ouch.”

“I’m just speaking the truth. So what is it? Are you in legal trouble? Money trouble?”

“Whoa, stop right there,” Andy said. “Don’t worry about my personal life. I’m solid. I’m whole. But there is something…”

“Here we go,” I said.

“It’s April.”

April.

Wow.

There’s a name I haven’t heard or thought of in a long time…

“April,” I said. “Your pain in the ass little sister.”

“That’s the one,” he said. “She’s got some job assignment thing. Here.”
