“Hey, slut.”

I stood up. “Hey, lady of the night.”

“That makes me sound elegant,” Steph said as she did a curtsy.

“Not sure you were elegant the last time I saw you,” I said. “Licking whipped cream out of a woman’s belly button.”

“That was fun.”

“You didn’t even know the woman.”

“You should try living a little,” Steph said. “Speaking of which. Did you really take on theHo-Healthcampaign?”

I shrugged my shoulders.

“Are you trying to kiss ass around here? Or just get a free vacation out of it?”

I snorted. “Free vacation? They won’t even pay for a hotel for me.”

“See? This is what happens. These rich assholes trying to take advantage of women. We need to step up and bail on this place. Start our own marketing company.”

“Can you shut the door while you’re giving this speech? I don’t want to get fired.”

“Listen to me, April. You… me…”

I held up my hand. “Let me finish this one for you.You. Me. Poppy. Katie. We all just walk out. We scream ‘fuck you’ on the way out and then start our own business.”

Steph made a pouting face.

“And then you think I can just hit my brother up for money,” I said.

“He’s a rich hockey player!”

“It’s not my money!”

“But it’s family, April.”

“I’m good on my own,” I said. “Okay?”

“This is what you want? This stupid health campaign? You’re going to travel hours away just to try and sell some health bars?”

“Look at it this way,” I said. “I’m going with a different strategy. Okay? And when I get bumped up, I’m taking you all with me. Then we clean house from the top.”

“That sounds like work,” she said.

I laughed. “And what are youworkingon right now?”

“I’ve got a snowboarding company,” she smiled.

“There it is,” I said. “Come on. How hot is the guy that owns the company.”

Steph grabbed the back of a chair and pretended to hump it for a second. “So hot, April. It’s insane. He’s the dream. Snowboarding. Surfing. I mean…”

“Say no more,” I said. “You might as well marry him right now.”

“Marry him? That’s disgusting. Who wants to get married? Look, you didn’t take my advice with that psycho you were with. I told you something was wrong with that guy. He was a weirdo. I’m happy you got away from him before anything happened.”

I glanced down at my phone for a split second.
