“Jesus, Lyla! If another man had touched him, I would’ve…”

“Would’ve what?”

“Killed them.”

“You do love him!” Getting up from the table, she hurries off, leaving me hanging before she returns with a piece of paper. Slapping it down onto the table in front of me, she says, “Here. Go see him. Now. Tonight. Tell him how you feel about him. He’s in a really dark place, like figuratively and literally.”

“Huh?”

“Like the place he’s staying at is dark and gloomy, and his mental state is also dark. You know, depressed?”

“Oh.”

“I think seeing you will cheer him up.”

“I don’t know. He’s obviously still angry with me if he doesn’t want you to give me the address.”

“What happened to cause the rift or whatever is wrong between you two?”

“I don’t know!”

“You have to have an idea.”

“I…we…and then he just shut down and left town with you.”

“Well, I hope you can smooth things over with him.”

“Me too.”

“And RJ?”

“Yeah?”

“It’s your decision, but if you can see a future with Thane, then you should tell your brothers.”

“Remy already knows. You think I should come out to Bear and Colt?”

“Wouldn’t it be better to hear it from you than to have someone see the two of you together and blab about it?”

“I don’t know. I want to be with Thane, but I don’t want to lose my brothers. I’m not sure if I can have both…”

“You won’t lose your brothers for being honest with them.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I know how much your brothers love you, how much you love each other,” she says, which does make me feel a little better.

Tomorrow, I’ll worry about my brothers. Tonight, I’m going to see Thane for the first time in weeks.

CHAPTERFORTY-SIX

Thane

I’m tossing and turning on the sofa, the only salvageable piece of furniture in the trailer, when there’s a knock at the door.

A visitor in this part of town in the middle of the night can’t be good.

Except I doubt robbers would knock first.
