“This ain’t no fucking girl talk at a sleepover,” I remind him. “You’re our hostage.”

“Oh, come on! You wouldn’t have brought it up if you didn’t want to talk about it.”

My fingers interlock to crack them in front of me as I debate how much more I should say. RJ is going to be furious when he finds out I told Jordan about the kiss.

Since he’s already ended shit by telling me to stay the hell away from him, it doesn’t really matter.

“Yeah, he kissed me back for a while before throwing a hissy fit. Stole my gum too,” I remark as I take out the package from my pocket to pop out another piece.

“A hissy fit?”

I shrug like it’s no big deal as I chew the gum. “He told me to stay away from you, him, the club. Oh, and his shop.”

“Damn.”

“Do you think he meant it?” I ask him like an idiot.

“I don’t know. You may have pushed too hard, too fast.”

“I figured as much, but I don’t regret it.”

As far as first kisses with a guy go, he really could’ve broken my nose or jaw afterward. Instead, he just cut me down with words.

“Maybe he just needs time to wrap his head around everything,” Jordan offers. “Whatever he feels for you is new, and RJ doesn’t like being out of sorts.”

“Out of sorts?”

“Working with him, I noticed he gets frustrated when he has to learn new shit, like if the bank changes the deposit slips or the vendors discontinue an item he was using. Small things like that set off his temper. It’s rare, but it happens occasionally.”

“Does he take his temper out on you?”

“Nope. He bitches and complains, then just asks me to figure it out so he can get back to fixing cars.”

“He’s a good mechanic?”

“The best. Or at least I think so. There’s nothing he can’t fix.”

“Careful, prospect. Sounds like your crush is showing.”

“Oh, shut up. I look up to him as a mentor and boss. Nothing else. And you are obviously jealous of our relationship.”

“I’m jealous?”

“Yeah. You’re jealous because I get to spend all day, every day, with him, and you don’t. You’re jealous because he likes me but still hasn’t made a decision about you yet.”

I consider his assessment while I chew the gum harder than necessary. “I think I may have fucked things up beyond repair with him when I kidnapped you.”

“Get me something to eat and drink and I’ll tell him you treated me like a king,” Jordan says with a grin. “Get it? King?”

“Yeah, prospect. I get it,” I tell him as I get to my feet. I start to leave to go down and ask Dallas to cook him up a plate before remembering he’s our hostage.

Instead, I decide to call down and make the request instead.

Isaac might be pissed when he finds out, but he never told me not to feed him. Besides, he put me in charge of this job, so I’ll handle shit how I want – including feeding the prospect to try and earn a few brownie points from his boss.
