It’s nearly 2:00 a.m. before we all get back to Greer’s with Jordan.

I hated seeing the bruises on his ribs, but that was the worst of his injuries. He’ll heal, and thankfully, he said they didn’t do anything worse. He assured us he wasn’t beaten, just tossed around the van with his wrists restrained behind his back. Overall, he’s actually in good spirits.

Isaac still insisted we close our chapter down by the end of the month when he agreed to let Jordan go, but that’s a problem for another day.

After the whole ordeal, Remy even let the kid have one beer before he heads out.

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Colt asks Jordan for the tenth time as the three of us sit around one of the sticky tables. Bear is the only other person still here, but he’s sitting at the bar, just staring down at his phone.

“Dude, I’m fine. Go home to my mom before she gets suspicious.”

“Not until you go home.”

“I’m too wired to sleep yet,” he tells him.

My brother looks frustrated, torn between staying or getting home to Josie. “I can stay with him,” I offer.

“You sure?”

“Yeah. He’s my prospect. I should’ve kept a better eye on him. I’m sorry they took him…”

“I’m not a child!” Jordan grumbles. “And you’re not my babysitters!”

“Just lay low for now. Please?” Colt asks him. “For your mom’s sake? If she finds out…”

“She won’t,” he says. “She doesn’t need to know. I’m fine. Go home and stop trying to be my father.”

With a clenched jaw, Colt finally takes off out the door.

“Finally,” Jordan huffs with a roll of his eyes. Then suddenly, his entire attitude changes. He leans across the table, grinning at me with his chin on his fist. Quietly, he says, “So, tell me about that kiss.”

Oh shit.

“Don’t know what you’re talking about,” I lie, unable to stop my tongue from licking my lips, which still taste like him, icy-cool peppermint. That’s probably because I’m still chewing his fucking gum like an idiot.

“There’s no point in lying since Thane told me everything.”

“He told you?” I exclaim so loudly that Barrett and Greer turn to look at us. Thankfully, they go back to what they were doing – Bear absorbed with his phone and Greer wiping down the bar with a thousand-yard stare on his face.

“He told you everything?” I repeat much quieter this time.

“He did. The man was flabbergasted by it.”

“Flabbergasted? Is that good or bad?”

Jordan grins, looking way too happy for a recent kidnapping victim. “Good. Definitely good.”

Scrubbing my palms down my face, I tell him, “I don’t know how it happened. I had no clue what I was doing.”

“You’ve kissed plenty of women before, right? I’m guessing it’s the same. Haven’t ever done that with a dude, though.”

“So you and him didn’t…”

“Me and who?”

“Thane.”

“Me and Thane? Where did that come from?”
