If I take him to Isaac now, he might blurt out that I’m gay and get me kicked out of the club. My best option is to send him on his way and hope nobody saw us or heard us back here.

“I’ll let you go if you promise to keep my secret, blondie,” I finally tell him.

RJ nods, so I remove my palm from his mouth and reluctantly take two steps back. “I better not see your ass in this county again.” The lie rolls off my tongue before I start to walk away since I already wish I could see him again under less hostile conditions.

“Don’t worry, you won’t ever see me again,” he replies, sounding a little out of breath but determined to keep up that end of our bargain.

CHAPTERTHREE

RJ

I’m not sure why that Thane guy finally decided to let me go, but I’m glad he did. Bear would be furious if he found out I got caught with my pants down, thanks to a Devil Hound.

And I never want to tell anyone, especially Bear, a single thing about what transpired back there, so Thane’s secret will go to the grave with me.

I’m blaming the champagne for my misbehaving dick. Maybe I had enough to drink that I’ll wake up tomorrow and won’t even remember what happened tonight.

Hell, it’s possible. It’s only been a few minutes, and yet again, I can’t remember if I go left or right outside the gate. I look back and forth to try and find him standing among the vehicles, but it’s no use in the dark.

I think he’s over to the…left?

“Bear?” I whisper but don’t get a response, so I pull out my cell phone to use the flashlight app. Louder, I call out his name again. “Bear?”

“Over here!” he thankfully calls back. As my boots crunch on the gravel, moving closer, Bear says, “What took you so long?”

“Sorry.” I try to come up with a good excuse. “Long line.”

“Everything okay?”

“Yeah, but we should go…” I trail off, shining my light on him and…a woman embracing. He’s hugging up on a red-haired woman. “Holy shit. Is that Laurel?” I exclaim.

“No, it’s Laurel’s sister.”

“Um, okay. Why are you making out with your ex-wife’s sister?”

“Ex-wife?” the girl says at the same time the Bear explains himself. “We’re not making out. Lyla took a tumble.”

“What do you mean she took a tumble?” I ask in confusion. Did she do some gymnastics out here or something?

“She fell down!”

“Oh. Is she okay?”

“That’s what I was trying to find out when you came up.”

Crazy what kind of shit happens in a matter of minutes.

“Wait a second.” The woman pushes her palms against my brother’s chest and takes a step back to look up at his face. “Barrett? What are you doing here?” It’s a good question. Before he can respond, she gasps. “Oh my god. Were you coming to stop Laurel from getting married? You told me that you wouldn’t show up and cause a scene!”

“No, I know. That’s not why I’m here.”

“Then why?”

“I don’t know. I guess I was trying to get that closure we talked about.”

“Closure? To see Laurel is happily married to someone else.”

I move my phone light back and forth from Barrett to Lyla, trying to follow their conversation like a tennis game. Tennis match?
