I briefly dared to look at him, but much to my surprise, I didn't find any fear in his eyes. “What’s his name?” he asked in a calm but serious tone. “There is only one Italian I know of in New York who broke from the Italian oath of not hurting women and children. Please tell me that’s not your husband, Elise.”

I took another sip from the bottle. My silence said more than a thousand words.

“God damn fucking Marcello Russo,” he finally said as if he was summoning the devil.

I hated myself for my weakness, but no matter how hard I tried to fight it, I felt the burning hot sensation of tears in my eyes. I wiped the first one away with the back of my hand. Then the second, but soon there were too many, and all I could do was give in.

“I’m sorry, Andrei. I never meant to cause you any problems. I am so ashamed to be his wife. I didn’t know who he was when I married him. Please believe me!” My eyes sought his. “I asked for a divorce as soon as I found out about his horrific doings, but he said he would rather kill me than be made a fool in front of the whole world. To him, a divorce would make him look weak, like he couldn’t control his wife. And you know what weakness means in his world.”

“Death…” Andrei said. “Weakness in mine and his world means death.”

I nodded. “He never loved me. All he wanted was an innocent woman from a God-fearing family who would bare him many sons. As you already know, that didn’t work out. So, I ran. And I will keep running until I die if I have to, but I won’t ever go back to him.”

Gently, Andrei put his hands around me and squeezed my shoulder.

“Please don’t cry,” he said. “I can’t stand seeing you cry.”

I tried to stop but couldn’t, so he pulled me into his strong arms.

“I don’t care who he is,” he mumbled, his mouth buried against my head. “I’ll kill this son of a bitch. I swear I will. You’re mine now. Not his. And nobody fucks with what’s mine. Not even Marcello fucking Russo, that little prick.”

Hearing him say those words made me tear up even more. I hadn't felt like this with any man ever. To hear him stand by me like this and promise to keep me safe made me feel as if I was allowed to show emotions again.

I wrapped my hands around his waist, legs on his crotch, and hoped that was enough to tell him how much I wanted to be his.

“I’m so sorry,” I said, my sobbing finally slowing down to a sniffle.

He held me even tighter. “I’m sorry too.”

I pulled away and looked at him. “You have nothing to be sorry for.”

He shook his head, then gently brushed his lips against mine. “I do, because now you won’t get to see the magnificent Swiss Alps.”

It was as if someone had crushed the big concrete block on my chest to let me rise and breathe again.

“I won’t?” I kissed him back, smiling faintly.

“Nope. There are a few changes in plans. The biggest is that you’ll now have to come to Indonesia with me. If you want to or not. But it’s my next stop on the run, and with a man like Marcello after you, there’s only one place you belong.”

“And that is?” My breath grew quicker as I felt him getting hard underneath me.

“By my side, of course,” he moaned as his kisses grew passionate. “The only place where you’ll be safe from that monster.”

“Why Indonesia?” I asked. He stopped kissing me but caressed his hand gently up and down my back.

“I can’t keep running with you. It’s too hard with two people. The CIA will find us sooner than later, but Indonesia has no extradition policy with the United States, so the CIA can’t arrest me there.”

“What about Marcello?”

“We could be somewhat safe there. For a little while, at least. If he finds us there and sends his thugs, I’ll kill them until it’s safe enough for me to make a quick trip to the US and kill his ass too.”

I smiled and started rubbing my wet center against his huge bulge.

“Any idea what you want to do here before we leave this cabin forever?”

He picked me up like I was a feather and carried me to the bed.

“I might have an idea,” he moaned in a low voice. “I think you’ll like it.”
