I shivered. Andrei Kowitsch. My monster. My beast. He was all I ever wanted.

“I love you, too, Andrei. More than you will ever know.”

Chapter 26

A few weeks later

Andrei

Idrove from Manhattan to Boston that afternoon. I had a few things to take care of in New York regarding some of my investments and everything went smoothly. Elise didn’t feel mentally ready yet to return to New York, so she stayed in Indonesia, and I went alone.

It took four hours and thirty minutes to Boston, but it felt like forever. When I got to the address, I stepped out of the car and stared up at the building.

It was a gray bungalow with a gray slate roof. I stared at it for a few seconds, the few stairs with their hand railings, the flowers on the front porch, and the modern wooden fence, too.

My sister Mila had mentioned in one of her letters that they had bought a house. I glanced around the neighborhood. The place looked decent.

I smiled, thinking of meeting my little sister after all this time. I’d worried I would never see her after I left the city. I thought after we separated, time would pass, and we would drift apart like strangers. And I would have been okay with that, as I was glad she’d found a man like Noah who loved her and would die for her. That cop had never given me a reason to worry. Not yet, anyway. And if he did, I would just take care of him. Eagle style.

I checked the address on the building and glanced at my wristwatch. It was a few minutes past six p.m., so I was confident that Mila would be home. I walked to the front door and pressed the doorbell.

I heard a woman’s voice through the door. “I’m coming!”

I pressed the doorbell again. When she was younger, she used to do that to me despite knowing how much I hated it. A real pain in the ass. My smile widened as I pressed the doorbell over and over again.

“Hey! I said I’m coming,” she said angrily and tore the door open just as I was about to press the bell again.

In utter shock, Mila stared at me for a second, then frowned. The door opened wider, and she took two steps forward. I watched her. She had the same face, but she looked more mature. She was wearing jeans, a sweater, and her hair was in a messy bun.

“Andrei!” she suddenly screamed and ran forward to hug me. She almost knocked the two of us down, weak as I felt in that moment. I shut my eyes and held her tight in my arms, feeling overcome with happiness.

“My little Mila,” I said, squeezing her even tighter. Her feet were barely touching the ground.

She grinned at me and wrapped her hands around my shoulders.

“I missed you so much,” she cried.

“I missed you too.”

We hugged until I put her down and scanned her head to toe. “Look at you. All grown.”

Her eyes were red with tears and she wiped her face with the back of her hand. “You look different, too,” she said. “Tamer, I guess.”

I smiled at her and squeezed her shoulder with my left hand. She held my hand and pulled me toward the house. “Come inside.”

It was a well-furnished place. Not luxurious, but it looked nice. Like those modern farmhouse homes. A long couch and two gray chairs sat in the center of the living room. The wooden walls were polished and looked like they were out of a TV show likeFixer Upper. The dining set was ringed with four chairs.

I stopped in the living room and glanced around. There were curtains in a classic, gray-colored pattern. They looked good.

“Noah,” Mila shouted. “Come! Andrei is here!”

Through the back window, I could see Noah attending to some plants in the garden. He was holding a pair of scissors and working with gloves on. He put the items down and hurried toward the house.

“Holy shit,” he gasped, almost dropping the muddy scissors. “Andrei! How is this possible?”

Noah and I hugged like old friends. Even though we didn't have a good start, he was taking good care of my sister, and that was all that mattered.

“Please, sit down.” He grinned. “Beer?”
