“Aw, you two are so cute.” Ava clasps her hands under her chin. “So, am I going to be getting a sibling anytime soon or are we having a wedding first? Oh, I vote for a June wedding.” She bounces in her seat.
“Ava,” Chris booms, but his daughter just keeps smiling, annoying him even further.
Father and daughter launch into a series of back and forth while I dig into my purse to pick up my ringing phone.
“Oh no,” I whisper when I see the caller ID.
The two of them stop arguing and turn to me. “What’s wrong?” Chris asks.
“My parents are calling," I announce and Ava bristles.
“Are you going to tell them?” she asks.
Taking a deep breath, I pick up the call. “Mom, there’s something I need to tell you.” I wait for her response and when she urges me on, I continue. “I am in love with someone and he is the most wonderful man. I can’t wait for you to meet him.”
My eyes remain on Chris as I say each word and my stomach flutters from how ecstatic I am just thinking about spending the rest of my life with him.
