“What? Flying naked?”

“Just flying. It’s freaky.” She remained perfectly still.

“Twenty percent of alphas fly.”

“And I am mated to two of them. Delightful.” She grimaced.

“Oh, don’t worry. We can do other things as well.”

She opened her eyes, and he flew through the house to a central pool. He settled near the shower and turned it on, making sure it was warm before he stepped under the spray with her. He washed her with a strange move that made her freeze. His hand at her back supported her weight, and she was literally suspended by his palm.

“Is this one of those other things?”

He chuckled. “You are light as air, precious.”

“I really don’t think so, or you wouldn’t sayoofwhen I pounce on you. Oh, wait. That was Mahel. I will pounce on you later.”

Kresso chuckled and finished rinsing off the traces of the afternoon frolic.

“Did I get a sunburn? It doesn’t feel like it, but I have been rather distracted.”

“Does your species suffer from solar exposure?”

“Yeah, we are radiation sensitive.”

“We are not. Your skin is fine. Still pretty and silky smooth.”

He held out his hand, and she floated from his palm to settle gently in the pool.

The pool was warm, and she relaxed instantly. Lyra paddled around and comfortably floated as she watched Mahel fly in and head to the shower. He rinsed off and turned to watch her in the pool. She lazily turned over, dove under, and then came up doing a hair flip worthy of a shampoo commercial.

She opened her eyes and grinned. She got them both. Her giggle was irrepressible.

Kresso wiped the water from his eyes. He looked at her with a narrowed gaze. “Accident?”

She shrugged. “Sure.”

Mahel looked at her as if he was contemplating something and then sat on the edge of the pool, and without additional warning, he lunged at her.

She shrieked as his arms came around her, and he pulled her under the water. He kissed her, and she smacked his shoulders as her lungs demanded air. She finally went limp, and he pulled her up to the surface.

She sucked air in and started shaking. Mahel looked at her, cursed, lifted her out of the water, and held her in his arms.

Kresso got a medkit and scanned her. “What the hell. She’s in shock.”

Mahel winced. “I forgot that she drowned.”

Kresso grabbed her head between his hands. “Lyra? Lyra!”

Mahel said, “I hope she doesn’t hold a grudge.”

The slap on her ass resounded in the room, but she inhaled deeply and punched Mahel in the chest. “Asshole!”

Kresso sat back on his heels. “Stress memory?”

“Yeah. Something was heavy on me, holding me down, and the air was running out.” She looked at Kresso and jumped at him. He cuddled her, and she cried until her throat was raw and her eyes were puffy.

When she had finally slumped against him, he handed her to Mahel. “Now let him fix what he broke.”
