“I had hoped...” He heaved a sigh. “Anyway, you can’t take the elevator. The system shut down due to the lockdown,” he warned.

Mahel and Kresso grunted their thanks.

“Thank you,” she called over Kresso’s shoulder as her mates took off for the stairs.

Lyra was thankful Kresso carried her because the escape route was deep underground, and the tunnel was dark and damp. What felt like hours passed, and they finally reached the flyer and landing pad at the end of the tunnel.

Mahel readied the flyer, and Kresso seated his big body inside with her on his lap.

“We are far enough away from the capitol building that we shouldn’t draw the other alphas’ attention.” Mahel slid into the seat beside Kresso and began pushing buttons.

“Stop at the island first. Lyra will need her clothing, and she needs to eat. It is a long flight to the outpost.”

Chapter Eight

Lyra yawned and burrowed deeper into the warmth of Kresso’s chest. It felt like she was back in her nest. His scent surrounded her, teasing her senses. It made her feel protected. She felt secure in a way she hadn’t known she needed. She’d fallen asleep in his arms not long after they had taken the flyer and headed to Mahel’s outpost.

She cracked open her eyelids and peered through the forward window. The view was incredible. The dark, endless space surrounding them was filled with colourful nebulae, planets, and stars. Off in the distance, a large space station rotated slowly on an invisible axis.I am in fucking outer space!

“Is that the outpost?” Lyra stretched slightly, and her stomach began to rumble. No matter how much she ate, her body still insisted she needed more nourishment. “Is there food?”

“Yes, that is the outpost.” Mahel grinned. “And, of course, there will be food.”

Kresso gave Mahel a droll stare. “I am quite sure a feast has been prepared for your arrival.” He dug into one of the bags they had packed and handed her a bright red fruit. “This should tide you over until we land.”

Lira hadn’t missed the sarcasm in Kresso’s voice. “A feast? That sounds wonderful.” She smiled brightly then took a bite of the fruit and savoured the burst of tart sweetness across her tongue.

Mahel sighed deeply, and Lyra could see him all but cringe. “If it is a feast you want, precious, then we shall have to make sure it happens.” He leered at her, his eyes darkening with desire. “In private, of course.”

The hot look Mahel shot her was enough to make her fangs extend, and she ached to take a bite out of her very sexy mate instead of the fruit still clutched in her hand.

Kresso inhaled deeply and grazed his teeth across the sensitive skin of her neck, making her squirm in his lap. Then he growled in her ear, “If you leave this flyer smelling as luscious as you do now, even the betas won’t be able to control themselves.”

“Then take care of me, Kresso.” She twisted on his lap and flashed a smile to show her fangs had descended.

Her stomach growled again.

Loudly.

Lyra stared at the fruit in her hand then back at Kresso. Both were quite tempting. But... Food first, sex later. She shrugged and quickly took a bite of the fruit, the juices burst across her tongue, and she moaned. Yup.

Kresso gave her a calculated stare then kissed her. “Mmmm...” he said when he drew back. “A little tart, just like you.”

“No time for play, Kresso. We’ll be docking in less than ten minutes.” Mahel pushed a button on the flyer’s console. “Control, this is Captain Mahel. Prepare docking bay twelve for landing.”

“Aye, sir. Docking bay twelve outer doors opening in five... four... three... two... one. Docking bay twelve prepared for landing,” a female voice responded.

“Thank you, Sergeant.” Mahel disengaged the autopilot. “Coming in for landing.”

“We’ll finish this later.” Kresso nipped the tip of her ear and squeezed her hip.

“Don’t finish without me.” Her teeth seemed to know playtime had been postponed.

Mahel grunted his agreement, swooped in, and captured her lips before releasing her and focusing on the landing controls.

Lyra’s heart skipped a beat, and with the way her cheeks felt so tight, she knew she was grinning like a loon, but she couldn’t help it. Mahel and Kresso made her feel...

Happy?
