“I’ve never played golf like this.”

“Like this?”

“There is a virtual golf place near my house. It’s supposed to be so you can practice but I go there because I like to swing the club.”

“Okay, that explains why you loosened up as we played longer but not how you managed to hit the balls with the same club instead of changing.”

“It’s because I only use one club at the virtual place. I never use more than one because if you do, you have to pay for each one. Who's got that kind of money?”

Brian looked at her for a moment and then started to laugh out loud. When the waitress came and handed them both their menus, Jessica looked at the prices and exclaimed, “Are we going dutch on this?”

“It's my treat so don't worry about it.”

“If you're sure. I mean I know they pay you well, but this is a little extravagant for dessert.”

“You don't order dessert when you're with Beth?” he asked.

“I have to tell you the experience is completely different.”

The waitress standing by couldn't help but laugh, then she looked at Jessica and nodded. “Yes, having dessert with this man would definitely be a completely different experience than one of my girlfriends. Why don't you get the tower for the both of you?”

“Great idea, are you OK with that, Brian?”

Brian looked at the two women and shrugged. “I never argue when I'm outnumbered.”

The waitress nodded and then walked away.

“Yes, so like I was saying, having dessert with you at this shop is definitely a different experience than having it with Beth. First of all, Beth could probably eat everything on the table and not gain a pound. I on the other hand would be picking and choosing which ones I should eat and seeing which ones I can save for later.”

“Well, you don't have to do that now because I think you look perfect no matter what.”

It didn't take long before the waitress brought out the tower and it was true to its name being four levels tall.

“Oh, my goodness Brian, I didn't know.”

Brian laughed looking at her eyes becoming wide as saucers.

“Enjoy yourself, Jessica, remember that's what we're here to do, and for us to spend time together.”

“You know, you have to see the irony in this, Brian. When I finally decide that I want to relax and socialize with a man, it's the man that I'm in competition with for his job. Is your strategy to get me into a sugar induced coma and take the lead?” she giggled.

“No —”

Jessica held up her hands. “Calm down. I’m just saying you have to see the irony.”

“I must not have as much imagination as you do. I don't think this is ironic as much as I think it's fate.”

“Are you trying to tell me that the number one performer in the accounting department believes in fate?”

“My belief in the unknown helps me to see clear. It helps me to see you.”

Jessica stopped laughing and then sat back. It was as if she was trying to decide something. Instead of making that decision one way or another, she took a piece of cake off of the tower and then sat back to enjoy it.

For a moment Brian thought that he had pushed too far.

“A carrot cake cube for your thoughts,” Brian said.

“I'm sorry I'm being such a wet blanket. I want you to know that I really appreciate what you've been doing for me today.”
