She had been wearing a whole bottle of Eye of the Dragon vodka. The thought of licking every drop off her body had run through all three of their minds.

"She’s a definite fucking no," Zachary said, but he caught himself before the expletive flew out of his mouth, and he ended up mouthing it instead. Because shit, there were kids around now. He had picked up baby Daisy, and she nestled comfortably against his chest, dozing off.

"Double no," Preston said. Charlie had latched herself onto him; her arms were wound tightly around his neck. "We can’t have her around the house. Fu... we need to be able to think straight."

"She’ll have to do for today," Michael added. They had a huge meeting that they couldn’t postpone since dealing with it now meant they could wrap things up with the takeover and then have more time on their hands to spend with the kids.

Lucas had come to stand next to him, put his hand into the pocket of his shorts, and stroked his jaw with his other hand, pretty much intimating what Michael was doing.

He looked down at the kid and smiled, which was a rare occurrence for him. Lucas offered him a big grin back and threw his arms around Michael’s legs as he hugged him tightly.

He supposed imitation was the best form of flattery.

He looked at his friends, the men he had grown up with, bound by a bond they had forged that ran deeper than blood. These kids belonged to them now. Their lives had changed forever, and nothing would go back to the way it was.

But then half an hour later, Dakota Turner returned, drowning in one of their bathrobes. Her hair was still wet. She smelled like they did. They also couldn’t ignore the fact that beneath that robe, she was completely naked.

They needed to find a more suitable nanny sooner rather than later.

Michael couldn’t also ignore the odd feeling, a sliver no more, that there was something about her that bothered him. He had seen that same kind of suspicion in both Preston and Zach when they looked at her.

He couldn’t put that sensation into words, and neither could Preston or Zach.

But there was definitely something about her.

Chapter Six

With her heart beating like a drunk horse galloping through a field, Dakota gathered up her things, like her soiled top and her handbag, and forced herself to almost merrily skip from the room as if she were Mary freaking Poppins in a musical.

Meanwhile, the tingling in her hand from having actually touched them when she shook their hands had crept into her veins and heated her from the inside out.

One touch and she couldn’t see straight. What was wrong with her?

Nothing. Because she was done being distracted. Distraction was what had put her in this situation in the first place. She was here only to steal a diamond. Nothing else. And she had the perfect cover to do so. She just had to play the part.

But first, she needed to get out of her wet clothes.

She found the elevators easily enough. Who had elevators in their houses? People who were too rich to take the stairs.

She got off on the second floor, then, after trying a few doors, she finally stepped into a bathroom and gasped.

Enclosed in marble—and when she said enclosed, she meant the ceiling, walls, and tiles were actually white marble with gold squiggly lines here and there.

She stopped herself right there and refused to be dazzled by their bathroom as well.

She stripped off her clothes, rinsed everything in the basin, and then left it there so she could step into the shower, which was basically an indoor fountain.

It took her a while to figure out the buttons, but soon she had the temperature just right. Forced to use their soap and shampoo because she had no other choice, she washed her hair and lathered herself up.

After using their snow-white towel to dry herself, she realized she had nothing to wear.

How had she not thought this through properly?

Before she started to lament how unaligned her stars were, she grabbed a bathrobe and put it on.

It was so big it felt as if she were wearing a duvet, but it would have to do. Besides, she was the nanny now.

Her job was to take care of the kids. So she wasn’t qualified in any way, but there was such a thing as the Internet, and after a few how-to videos, she’d be a pro.
