The three of them exchanged looks.

Who the fuck was the girl pretending to be a nanny, currently sleeping in one of their beds in their home?

They had a good sense of danger. Foster care had made them grow up quicker than they’d needed to. They could smell bullshit from a mile away. They could break the arm of a man trying to sell them sand and calling it gold dust before he even opened his mouth to broadcast his pitch.

They had acquaintances who they had grown up next to and who were now crime lords and mafia kings but who still feared the three of them.

Their reputation didn’t come without some kind of warning not to fuck with them in the office, on the street, or at a poker table.

Which was where they sought out the shadiest new poker player, Albert Moses Jones, this side of the Atlantic Seaboard just to see if he would try to fuck them over. He hadn’t.

So who was Dakota Turner?

Why was she in their home?

Pretending to be a nanny.

And what the fuck did she want from them?

Whatever her reasons for being there involved them, which meant the kids were safe. They knew that innately.

Were they even surprised that they had silently decided that no matter what nefarious reason she was there for, whether it was to kill them or steal from them, they were now truly ready to keep her bound to them forever?

She changed the playing field.

Chapter Ten

Dakota sprang from the bed in shock, her body still trembling.

She sighed in a mixture of relief and some other emotion she didn’t want to name when she realized it had all been a dream.

But the wet evidence between her thighs and the hard, achy, engorged peaks of her nipples told her she had experienced the dream vividly, viscerally, vivaciously.

She dropped herself back onto the bed and covered her face with her hands, then rubbed at her eyes to try and erase the images still swimming around in her head.

God, what had she just dreamed?

It was so raw, so wild, so dirty, and so sinful that she had blushed even in her sleep.

Nope. She wasn’t going to think about it anymore.

She glanced at her phone to check the time, then sprang up again.

Oh crap.

How had she slept for so long? And more importantly, how were Lucas, Charlie, and Daisy still asleep? She knew they were asleep because, if they weren't, they would come bounding into the bedroom and jump on the bed until she got up.

She collected baby Daisy, who was such a good sleeper. She slept through the night for a good ten hours or so. When Dakota would go into her room, which was in the process of being made up into a nursery for her, she was usually quietly playing with her toes. And that’s how their day began.

But this morning everyone seemed to be asleep after she checked the monitors. The visual feeds of the kids' room. They’d had a particularly busy day yesterday and spent half of it in the pool, which had clearly tired them out. And her too.

She got out of bed, went to the bathroom, and brushed her teeth. On her way back to the bedroom, so she could take out her clothes for the day before she showered, she opened the curtains to let in a flood of sunlight. But she also noticed a strange car parked outside the house.

Frowning, she took another glance at the time on her phone.

Oh no.

How could she have forgotten? In a frenzy she tried putting on a pair of jeans, but her haste had her wobbling around too much, so that endeavor failed, leaving her with the decision to go as she was.
