She hated it even more when they chuckled at her whispering her castigations because, dammit, she didn’t want to wake the kids.

"Where are you taking me, you ass clowns?" she asked furiously but softly.

"Downstairs. Like we said," Preston offered.

"Where you can scream and shout as much as you want when we’re spanking you."

Chapter Twelve

Dakota thought she was imagining things. But once Zachary set her back on her feet, she realized the most astonishing, extraordinary thing.

The basement they had taken her to looked nothing like any other basement she had seen in her life.

It wasn’t a basement at all.

A flood of heat started from her feet up and engulfed her as she looked around.

This….

This was a place she had no right to be in. The heat that had risen up inside her set her body alight. Everywhere she looked, it seemed to add fuel to the fire blazing under her skin.

Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy.

Ropes. Chains. Leather cuffs. Restraints. Whips. Floggers. Canes. She couldn't identify half of the other stuff.

"Don’t worry. We're not going to use any of that on you, yet," Michael said.

She couldn’t breathe. She was barely thinking straight. Why was she still so wet? Why hadn’t she run screaming in the other direction yet?

"Okay, calm down, Turner," she said silently to herself.

They were right. She would have been completely wrong if she assumed they intended to use any of that on her.

The women they brought here were the height of beauty and sophistication. World-traveled and soft-spoken. Natural-born temptresses.

She? She was naturally born on the wrong side of the world. The only thing she tempted was bad luck, and she had the sophistication of a drunk koala bear.

"Of course, you’re not going to use any of these things on me. You brought me here to scare me. Okay. So, I’m so scared. I’m literally petrified of your whips and chains and that thing over there. You win."

"We’re giving you one more chance to tell us the truth, Dakota. Why are you in our home, pretending to be a nanny?"

"I already told you exactly how that happened. Do you want me to repeat it?" Without waiting for an answer, she started to recite what she had told them before. "I pretended to be a nanny. My car broke down in front of your house. My phone died. I walked all the way up here. To ask if I could use your phone to call for help—"

"Do you know how easy it is for us to get everything there is to know about you on our desk in an hour, maybe less?"

"Do you understand the kind of power we have?"

"Do you know who we are?"

She chewed her lip as her gaze drifted across all three of them.

"Do it then," she said flippantly, and she started to walk toward the elevator. "We can talk if you have any questions."

"But we prefer to extract the truth straight from the person themselves," Michael said as she walked by.

"In that case, you’re wasting your time." She didn't bother turning around.

She was playing with fire; she knew that, but it was better than them touching her.
