So distracted that when Jones lost even the ante he had put up, she handed them the real diamond.

Chapter Two

"What am I going to do, Raven?"

Dakota lay flat on her tummy on the floor with her arms stretched out at her sides and her nose pressed to the cool beige tile of her spotlessly clean, tiny living room.

"Maybe get off the floor first?" Raven said, not half as bothered by the catastrophic event as Dakota herself. But that was just her way.

Dakota turned onto her back and stared at the ceiling.

"My life is over. This is the bad luck I was talking about. I swear I’m cursed."

"I’m sure you’re probably not."

"See? Even you can’t say that with complete confidence," she said, sobbing aloud. "I mean, I had just gotten paid and handed every single dollar over to a henchman who looked almost disappointed he didn’t get a chance to break my neck.

"I should have been home free. My fresh start was supposed to start today.

“But no. Not me.

“No fresh start for me. No good tidings for me," she moaned.

"I basically went to work for a con man so I could pay off a thug, and now I owe the con man a diamond, a real freaking diamond, Raven.

I swapped one problem for the same one all over again, just with different characters and different plots. Python was going to break my neck if I didn’t pay him back. Jones is going to toss my unalive corpse into the river because I gave away his diamond."

It had taken her all of a few seconds to realize her mistake, but by then it was too late.

She’d had more than enough time to make the simple switch that Jones had them practice so many times, they could do it in their sleep.

But she had been too dazzled by the three men who had wreaked havoc on her senses, leaving her too breathless and brainless to remember what she had to do.

So there she had stood, her body in flames, her heart drumming through her chest at the sight of them, and her panties drenched with the wetness dripping from her folds.

She’d heard about "instant love" or "love at first sight." But instant lust? Instant sex? Those kinds of phenomena were new to her.

She had never had that kind of reaction to any male before in her entire life. Then in one night, it happened thrice. Her intense response had been so diabolical, she didn’t even feel like the virgin she was when she woke up that morning.

She had even asked Raven if she had a thermometer so she could check her temperature, certain she was coming down with something weird.

But nope, her temperature was perfectly normal.

The only thing she suffered from were raging lust hormones.

"Okay, I need to fix this."

"So Jones thinks the fake diamond he has is actually the real diamond?” Raven asked, leaning forward in the chair and clasping her hands together.

“Pretty much.”

“Explain this to me.”

“I signed an NDA so you better not go around telling anyone else about this, okay?”

“Either way, you’re going to end up dead,” Raven said, shrugging as if they were talking about nothing more pressing than a preference for egg salad.

“True. Anyway, this is the low down on what we have to do. When Jones is on a losing streak—he usually cheats but only when he feels he can fool his opponents and obviously those three men were not people who he thought he could fool.
