With tears just shimmering behind her eyes, she barely registered what was being said.

"I don’t understand," Jones said, highly agitated.

"We canceled your match. This is our buy-in," Zachary said as he picked up a big black duffel bag and threw it at Jones, who almost stumbled over as he caught it.

Jones opened the bag, and his eyes bulged.

"Gentlemen?" He was, however, as confused as Dakota.

"We’d like a rematch, Jones," Preston said.

"A rematch?" Jones said it a little nervously. "But you won… You won my diamond."

"You mean this diamond?" Preston asked, producing the real diamond from the breast pocket inside his jacket.

Jones gulped. His face turned red.

Preston slid the diamond across the table. "You can thank her for saving your life. We normally tend to break necks when we’re taken for fools. You’re lucky we’re going to let you keep your diamond."

"But we’re playing for the girl now."

Dakota whipped her head up.

She entered a time loop, and nothing made sense. It was the only way to explain what was happening.

Dumbfounded, she watched as they played for her.

In record time, the game was over. Jones had given up easily enough.

Zachary came to her and took her by the arm. She winced because it was where Jones had dug his fingers into her.

Zachary gritted his teeth. Preston flexed his hands. Michael took hold of Jones by the throat.

"And one more thing, if you so much as breathe her name again, you’re dead. Ask around since you’re new here, but you don’t want to fuck with us." Michael then threw him to the floor.

Dakota was led out of the private poker room.

"I can explain," she began.

"You don’t get to talk."

She gulped down her next words.

They had to pass through the casino to get out.

Still reeling from everything that had happened, more shocking things seemed to happen.

On their way out, they were stopped by none other than Python, the man who had come demanding his boss’s money. Nothing surprised her more than seeing Python, the scary-ass man, shake their hands.

What?

Who were they?

Chapter Sixteen

Dakota pinched herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

Sitting in stony silence in the car with them was too much.
