His cock, or big dick as she liked to call it, throbbed between them. It would have to wait. Claire didn’t need another orgasm or three. What she needed was his focus and reassurance.

“That feels good,” she moaned, leaning back into his strength.

“You feel good, right,” he whispered nuzzling her neck, just behind the ear, loving the way her whole body seemed to light up.

The soapy sponge moved down her body, circling her breasts before driving between her legs and brushing her clit. She sighed contentedly. Claire seemed to love it when he played in or around her pussy, which was good, because he planned to spend a lot of time doing it.

As soon as he got things arranged, he intended to spend whole days doing nothing more than fucking and caring for her in all ways. His cock got painfully hard and Fletch was sure it was beginning to make plans of its own.

Much as he didn’t want to, Fletch turned down the temperature of the water and rinsed the soap from her body before quickly washing his own. He helped her out of the shower, and began to gently pat her down, drying every inch of her until she was warm through and through.

Finding sweatpants and a tank top for her, he marveled at how incredibly sexy she looked. His woman was a bombshell—no doubt about it—in more ways than one. Now to see about getting the bomb defused before it blew up in their faces.

CHAPTER19

CLAIRE

Fletch spent the rest of the day in London doing heavy negotiations to get both Claire and Mia clear of any allegations that might result from the return of her ‘pirate booty,’ as he’d termed it. Carter and one other man were with him, just in case, as Claire had hypothesized at breakfast, the hit team had been after him and Carter and not her and Mia.

It was early afternoon and she and Mia were standing in front of the wall of windows that led out onto an enormous deck overlooking the valley below. They had been informed that it was hurricane and bullet proof glass that was rated to withstand a Category 5 hurricane and the fire power of an Apache attack helicopter, so they felt safe standing there.

“You’re not staying, are you?” said Mia, choking back quiet tears.

“I can’t. I’m too much of a liability to all of you. Stick close to Fletch and Carter. They’ll make sure you’re okay. In fact, ask Fletch for a job. You’d be good at this. You and Carter make a good team.”

“So do you and Fletch.”

“I won’t deny that. I’ll even let you in on a little secret, last night he told me he loved me. I couldn’t tell him because I wasn’t sure of him or what a future with him might look like. Now I know. I love him, Mia.” She heard her friend catch a breath. “I love him so much it hurts. There will never be anyone but Fletch for me.”

“Claire, there must be a way. At least let me come with you.”

“It won’t work. I need to focus on my mission and having you along will distract me from that. Besides, I need you here to open a window in the security system so I can get away.”

“I can’t talk you out of this?”

Claire took Mia’s hand in hers and squeezed it. She’d never felt so alone.

“I found some sneakers, and I’ll head straight to our drop point. Take Fletch and the guys to the millhouse. Give them what we have in the way of jewels as well as all the documentation we found on their true ownership. Ask Fletch to take care of my horses. Sell the millhouse and keep the proceeds. I left you a power of attorney in the safe.”

Mia inhaled with a short, sharp stab of breath. “You’re never coming back.” It wasn’t a question, just a statement of fact.

“I think it’s best. Give me ten minutes to get what I need from upstairs. I’ll leave Fletch a note. Watch over him for me, Mia. And be happy with Carter.”

“Carter and I aren’t involved…”

“Yet,” Claire teased. “The operative word is ‘yet.’ I have loved three people in my life that I can remember: Poppi, Fletch, and you. Be happy, and now let me get out of here before I become a snotty mess with red, swollen eyes.”

Claire drew away and trotted up the stairs, each step taking her away from the only two living people she’d ever loved. Time to rejoin Poppi and complete their mission.

FLETCH

“What do you mean she’s gone,” Fletch roared at the men he’d left behind to safeguard his life, knowing full well they weren’t to blame. He turned to the one person he knew had helped her, Mia. “Where is she?

“I don’t know,” stammered Mia, sinking back against Carter.

“Tell him,” said Carter.
