My words ended up sending Lucas into a frenzy.

At first, he moved slowly, allowing me to adjust to the sheer size of him. I’d known firsthand that he was well-endowed, but seeing his hard, pulsing length again and feeling him bury himself deeply inside of me, I knew that I needed a few minutes to adjust to his enormous cock once again.

I gasped at his next thrust. I whimpered as a deep moan rose up from the depths of my belly. Each one that followed was a little faster and left me whimpering.

“Harder,” I demanded, suddenly impatient for him to let loose and give us both what we so desperately wanted. “I need to feel you deep inside of me!” I shouted as I clung to him, my nails digging into the skin of his back so hard that I knew I’d leave marks. I didn’t care though. All I cared about was him driving into me, over and over again. The sounds of our skin slapping as we came together until neither of us could take it anymore and we slipped over the edge.

Encouraged by my words, Lucas slammed into me, ramming himself so hard that I could barely hold on. Like the true sex god that he was, he’d slow the pace of his thrusts, torturing me until I was begging him to never stop. Just as I was about to come again, Lucas pulled out and flipped me over onto my hands and knees. I sank into the mattress as he slid back inside and resumed his delicious thrusting that left me quivering and trembling so hard that I couldn’t do anything but take what he gave me.

Over and over, he pounded into me. I met him eagerly as I lost myself to the ecstasy that I could only find with him.

“I’m going to come,” Lucas said seconds later just as my own body began to tense and tighten, another release was imminent.

“Then come with me,” I moaned as his tip met with the side of my inner wall and sent me over the edge.

Lucas roared as the first rope of his desire surged hot inside of me. He continued to move, pushing and pulling himself, until the last shot left him and he collapsed at my side.

“That was worth waiting over two years for,” he murmured as he kissed my shoulder and rested his hand upon the plane of my stomach.

“That was... that was…” I tried to search for the words to express what I’d felt, but none would come. Instead, I met Lucas’s blue eyes. They said everything that my lips and tongue would not.

Lucas and I laid wrapped together, our bodies entwined as moonlight flooded into the bedroom through the opened curtains. Just before dawn, Lucas made slow, sweet love to me until we were both too tired to keep our eyes open.

When I woke up in his arms that morning, I thanked the old gods and the new for giving us this second chance. I promised that nothing would come between us again. Through the good and the bad, we’d face whatever challenges came our way together. A united pair. An unbreakable force.

Little did we know the first test was waiting for us downstairs.

One Year after Rome

“Wait.Dowhat?Whatdid you just say is happening?” Lou said just before her mouth dropped open with a mixture of shock and horror.

“The owner of my building is selling the building. We received notice today that all of the tenants can finish out their current leases, but once they expire, that’s it. We’re getting kicked out.”

“That’s complete horseshit!” Lou fumed as we sat in the cold restaurant, sipping our drinks—iced tea for me, a cosmo for her. “There has to be some kind of loophole that you can find. They can’t just tell you to get out!”

“Actually, they can. I asked Sam, my neighbor who’s a lawyer, and he basically reiterated what the letter told me. That once my lease is up in a year, that’s it. I’m out of business unless I can find a prime spot in a good location with affordable rent.”

Lou scoffed through her nose. “Like that’s gonna happen in New York City?” Her disgust was heightened. “I’m so sorry, Ari. I can’t believe this has happened. Especially right after your parents…” her voice trailed off while the sharp pain that had become a constant part of me stabbed through the center of my chest.

Little did Lou know, but she’d struck the main source of my anger and my frustration. Not to mention, my bone-deep sadness. Finding out that I had a year to figure out how to keep my business alive, a business that I had pinned all my hopes and dreams on, just two months after losing my father and my stepmother to a drunk driver, had thrown me for a loop. It was more than a loop. It felt more like a tailspin and I was going down.

“Don’t you worry, Ari,” Lou said comfortingly as she reached out and took hold of my hand. “We’ll gather the troops to see what we can do. We’ll all help you. I bet you if we asked, Vanessa could ask that new boss of hers for advice. She mentioned something about him being in real estate the last time I talked to her.”

“I appreciate the offer to help,” I said flatly, even though I sincerely meant what I said.

“And we mean it, Ari. Life through a curveball at you and hit you square in the face. I can’t begin to imagine what you’re going through, but I’m here. We all are. All your friends. Your employees. Everyone who cares about you.”

“That means a lot, Lou. Really. It does.”

“But it doesn’t mean that you have to do this alone.” Lou knew exactly where I was headed and decided that it was her job to act as a roadblock to keep me from going there.

“I’m not—” I tried to argue, but once again my best friend was prepared.

“Yes, you are. You barely let us help you when your dad and Marjorie died. Let’s not forget that you threatened to end our friendship if I hired a private investigator to hunt down your super stud from Rome. I’m not going to sit back and let you go through this alone, Ari. No matter how much you push me away. No matter how many excuses you make, I’m going to be right there beside you each and every step of the way. We all will. You’re going to see so much of us that you’re going to get sick of us.”
