At thirty Tazeem had been hot. At thirty-nine he was sizzling. Chess wasn’t doing too badly herself. She’d gained a little weight but it all went to her hips which Tazeem loved very much. But sometimes looking at Tazeem made her feel like pitching a tent in the gym or a plastic surgeon’s office. The man was killing it in the looks department.

Like wine, he’d grown finer with age.

And yet, on the inside, he remained the same.

He was still the most loyal and faithful man she’d ever met. He still loved her with an unmatched fervor. He still treated her like she was the best gift he’d ever received. Even in her dreams, she couldn’t have conjured up a more loving and supportive partner to build a family and home with.

Being with him was like living in a dream. Sure, they’d had their thorny moments, but even then, she’d known that theirs was for keeps. That she was his for good, and he was hers forever. Every day they spent together, made her love him even more than the previous day. He was the best decision that she’d ever made, and he made it clear that he felt the same way about her.

Resisting the urge to move towards the bed and kiss the smile from his mouth, she bent to pick up the pen Keith had dropped. “Boys! Why couldn’t I have had a girl?”

The bed rasped slightly as Tazeem got off it. Chess straightened to her full height only to see him walking towards her with a predatory gleam in his eyes andthatsmile on his lips. Yeah, the smile that always preceded unexpected menaces like Jay, Chris, and Keith.

He licked his lips. “We’ve still got time to make a girl.”

“Oh no. No, no, no.” She slowly walked backward. “I’m done having kids.”

“One more, Sweetheart,” he coaxed while prowling toward her. “Just one more.”

“Hell n- aah!” Her words ended in a screech when he suddenly rushed towards her and hauled her off her feet. “Tazeem!”

Only the slamming of the door answered her. He locked the door and then carried her to the bed.
