“No.” Tazeem moved forward to set his hands on her waist. “It will only make him fear us. It won’t fix the problem.”

“Okay, Professor Khan, then tell me what will fix the problem?” she asked. He opened her mouth to answer, but before he could get a word out she cut in with, “And don’t say talking or giving him time because we can all see how that worked out.”

“I honestly think that the problem is half solved.” His gaze was graved as he added, “But we have an appointment with the child therapist on Saturday, right? We can talk to him and get some tips.”

His suggestion made a lot of sense, but she still felt like Jay needed to have a few more consequences for his actions.

“Yeah, we can do that on Saturday.” She proposed, “But before that, let me just hit him once and make him feel a little pain. I promise just once.”

“Uh-uh.” Tazeem shook his head.

“Come on,” she wheedled. “Just one hit.”

“Only if you can get past me.” One corner of Tazeem’s mouth kicked up in a smirk. “And you can’t.”

“We’ll see about that.” She darted to the left in an attempt to slip past him. But he was fast, and immediately blocked her before she could even take two steps forward.

“Move.” She shifted to the right. But he mirrored her actions.

“No.” His tone was as firm as his stance.

“You really think you can stop me, huh?” Her anger had now completely disappeared and been replaced with playful competitiveness. “I bet I can get past you.”

“You can certainly try,” he taunted.

So, she did. She feinted to the left. When he automatically darted to her left, she took him by surprise by immediately scurrying to the right. With a triumphant chuckle, she raced to the door.

Unfortunately, Tazeem was a much faster sprinter than she was. She only managed to touch the doorknob before steel-like arms locked around her waist and she was hauled off her feet.

“Tazeem!” she yelped even as the belt fell from her grip. “Put me down.”

“So you can go kill my son?” He carried her to the bed then sat on it with her on his lap. “I don’t think so.”

“Your son is a menace to society.” She struggled to get off his lap.

“Sit still,” he growled while locking her in with a firm hand on her thighs and around on her waist.

“Let me off,” she insisted while wiggling around. Unfortunately, her wiggling had unexpected results. She felt something swollen push against her thigh. Instantly, she stopped moving. Her wide-eyed gaze moved down to his crotch. What she saw there had her gasping as she met his eyes. “Seriously?”

Not in the least bit embarrassed by his erection, Tazeem chuckled. “What do expect when you’re wiggling around like that?”

She paused a breath before whispering, “I thought you didn’t want me like that anymore?”

Tazeem sighed. “I’ll always want you like that.”

His admission should’ve been a compliment but the sigh made it clear that he wished things were different. She’d hurt him so much that if he had a choice, he wouldn’t want to want her.

In an instant, remorse rocketed through her. Feeling a strange tightness in her lungs, she cupped his cheek. “I hope you know that I’m really, really sorry for what I did. I should never have kept Jay from you. I should never have hurt you the way I did. It was selfish and wrong. I know sorry isn’t worth much and can’t fix what I did, but I don’t know what else to say. I’m sorry.”

He didn’t say anything and just stared at her for an uncomfortably long time. Finally, he said, “Okay, I’ll take the sorry. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fully forgive you, but I’ll accept the apology.”

A weight that she didn’t even know she was carrying melted away. A relieved sigh escaped from her lips. “Thank you.”

“I might still end up making you pay for it though,” he threatened.

Immediately, she tensed again. “How? You won’t take Jay away from me, will you?”

“No, I would never take Jay away from you.” He surprised her by pressing a fast kiss on her lips. “I’ll find other ways.”
