You and me both,Aubree thought as she watched Grant leave.

Grant walked out of the coffee shop with Cameron following behind him laughing.

“Man, who is that?! A woman you messed over?” Cameron couldn’t believe what he just saw.

“No, I just met her a couple weeks ago. She is Chanel’s dance teacher.”

“Oh, so she is the one you called the Cardi B, Megan the Stallion wanna be?”

“So, Allie told you?” Grant already knew Allie would tell any and everything at Grant’s expense. She probably called Cameron as soon as she finished talking to Grant.

“Man, you must really like her. She is beautiful and almost reminds me...”

“Don’t say it. She has trouble written all over her. I will not have another woman come in my life and turn it upside down especially not with Chanel. Aubree is all Chanel talks about. If it ended, Chanel would be heart broken. But most importantly, I’m not trying to fall for another woman who is just after my name or my money.”

“Damn, I was just talking about smashing the girl, not a relationship. Dude, you are on a whole other level. I’m just saying, it never hurts to have some side pussy, but in your case, this will be main pussy because Celeste left you.”

“She didn’t leave me; it was a mutual decision to end our time together.”

“She told Meghan you called out another woman’s name multiple times the last time y’all were together. She just left your dick flying in the wind when she threw you out.”

“That is not how it happened.” Cameron looked at Grant. “Okay, maybe I did say another woman’s name while we were together, but it was a mutual decision to end it.”

“Okay, mutual decision. Whose name did you say?” Grant turned back toward the coffee shop. He was not going to answer that question.

“Oh shit, you called her old girl’s name in the coffee shop. Damn! She got your mind fucked all the way up, and you haven’t had the pussy!”

“Man, let’s call it a night. I need to pick up Chanel from Allie’s place. I will call you once I read over the contracts and make some revisions.”

“Alright, I get it. We are ending it right here. Well, if you don’t think Aubree is your type, I think I will step to her.”

“The hell you will,” Grant growled.

“I’m just playing. Call me this weekend so Roland and I can get you loosened up and possibly introduce you to some new available pussy.” Cameron laughed all the way to his car.

As Grant drove home, he was thinking about the evening. Grant called Allie to pick up Chanel, but Allie told him Chanel was already sleep, and she would take Chanel to school. When he realized who was talking about him, he couldn’t allow Aubree to talk shit about him in an open forum, sit at the table and do nothing about it. She had a lot to say about him until she realized he was standing next to the table. He had to say something to knock her down off her pedestal. As beautiful as Aubree was and as much as he desired her getting involved with her would be a mistake. Women like Aubree couldn’t be trusted. Grant almost lost his business and daughter dealing with a woman that he thought he could trust with everything. But Mariah taught him a valuable lesson about trust that he had never forgotten; believe a person when they show you who they are, and Mariah had definitely done that. The only good thing that came from his time with Mariah was Chanel. Chanel made him feel as if that time in his life wasn’t a waste. Mariah made a fool of him, and Grant would never let another woman do it again.

Aubree was beyond mortified about what happened at Drippin’ and distraught that she allowed her friend to bait her in to talking about Grant. Walking in her room, Aubree fell face first on the bed groaning at the turn of events tonight. Aubree would admit to no one that she wanted Grant; he left her breathless and speechless all at the same time. But his whole being spoke of wealth, style, sophistication, and prestige… everything she was not. Men like Grant only wanted women like her for one thing… sex. Aubree watched her mother Diana spend years chasing after rich, wealthy men for a better life even if that meant giving up her daughter and betraying the man that loved her. Diana would run off with some wealthy man, he would wine and dine her, buy her gifts, then drop her when they were tired of her. Diana expected Grandma Margrett and Aubree to nurse her broken heart from her bad choices. This was one of the reasons Aubree didn’t come home when Gerald mistreated and misused her because she was trying so hard not to be Diana. Once before, the wealthy folks of Dawson Falls had taken the two most important people in her life way, her mother and father.

To be with Grant would mean she would have to sacrifice something in her life, and at this point she had nothing left to give another man.

Chapter 11

Aubree was packing her dance bag at the end of the ballet and tap combination class. She loved working with the beginner class because they had so much energy and were eager to learn how to dance. The little girls all had dreams to be the next Misty Copeland or Ebony Williams, and she was going to help them reach their dreams. Aubree ran the push broom over the floor to clean up after the last class of the evening. The cleanup process just helped her to keep avoiding Grant since the scene she made at Drippin’. Once class ended, Aubree moved the girls out of the studio to the lobby to wait for their parents and then went to a different studio to avoid Grant. Aubree had waited for Mrs. Dubois to fire her because she knew Grant would say something to her about Aubree’s behavior. Acting like he was her father, or the moral police, trying to make her do something. In that moment, Grant made her feel like a common hoe on the street and that did not sit well with her no matter how fine he was.

Going to the main lobby, Aubree noticed some of her students, mainly Chanel, still waiting for their parents to pick them up. “Oh, Aubree, you are a life saver!” Mrs. Dubois came rushing toward Aubree with her face pinched and out of breath.

“I thought you were gone. I have to leave, and these lovely babies are waiting on their parents to pick them up. Can you stay with them so I can leave?”

“Sure, I can. Where is the contact information just in case I need to call parents?”

“It’s on the computer.” Ms. Dubois showed Aubree how to look up the students’ contact information and then left. Aubree decided to wait a little while before calling parents; she had time on her hands with no place to go. About 30 minutes later, parents began arriving to pick up their children. Chanel was the last student left, and Aubree was not looking forward to seeing Grant tonight. “

Hey Chanel, who is picking you up tonight?” Chanel stood with her face pressed against the glass door and stared out into the parking lot waiting for her father to arrive. Chanel didn’t even turn her head to acknowledge Aubree when she answered.

“My daddy is supposed to pick me up, and he is never late getting me.” Aubree could tell she was worried about her dad. She knew the feeling when she would wait on her dad to come home from working out of town. Her grandmother would tell her the day and time he would arrive, and Aubree would wait by the window for him to come get her. Sometimes she would fall asleep on the couch waiting for him to walk through the door. She was a daddy’s girl and was even named after him. Spending time with her dad was the best time in the world for her. They did everything together; going to the movies, park, shopping, and to get ice cream. He gave her his undivided attention even if her mother was around. Aubrey was the only parent that truly cared about her happiness, but her mother ruined everything that was good in her life.

“Okay, I’m sure your daddy will be here soon. Maybe he is stuck in traffic or had a late meeting.” Aubree tried to ease Chanel’s mind about her dad’s tardiness. “Let’s try calling him again. If we can’t reach him, we will call the next person on your list.” Chanel dialed Grant’s cell, work, and home numbers without any success. Aubree went down her emergency contact list with no success.
