“The papers?” Grant asked. “You said I needed to sign some papers for the dance recital.” Grant’s face was set in a permitted frown which made him look like a sexy mean gargoyle.

“Oh, yes, the papers.” Aubree took the papers out of her large purse and handed them to Grant. He signed the papers with such force that the pen almost tore through the paper and Aubree could see the imprint of his signature on the leather desk mat. Grant handed the papers back to Aubree so they could leave.

“See you at home, Daddy. Love you!” Chanel sang.

“Again, sorry to bother you both.” Aubree and Chanel walked out the door. Grant watched them until the door closed.

“You got it bad. There is no way this little arrangement is going to work. No way. Especially with Marcus sniffing behind her now. What are you going to do?”

“Nothing. Aubree is Chanel’s nanny, nothing more, and she is free to see or date who she wants.”

Allie watched Grant’s reaction to the next question. “Does that apply to your friends Cameron and Roland, other businessmen you know, or just strangers you have never met?”

“Stop starting shit, go to your office and worry about Fredrick!” Grant knew that would shut her up for a minute. Allie flipped him off and stormed out of his office. Grant laughed but he knew that Allie was right. How would he feel if Aubree was dating Marcus or any man for that matter?

As the waitress brought out their food and more drinks, Aubree continued to fill them with more accidental meet ups that were building the sexual frustration between them.

“If the office wasn’t bad enough, I walked in on Grant getting out of the shower.”

On the weekends, Aubree was usually gone before Grant got home because she didn’t have to pick up Chanel and would head home early. But Nova had called about going out to a jazz event in the park with some friends that evening. Not wanting to go home, Aubree agreed. She decided to get dressed before leaving Grant’s house so she wouldn’t run late meeting the group. Her car was with the mechanic, so she had to take an Uber or Lyft to the park then have Ivy take her home. After cleaning up Chanel’s playroom, Aubree decided to start getting ready. She went to the guest bedroom she used occasionally when she stayed overnight. Entering the room, Aubree stripped out of her clothes, grabbed her bag, and opened the bathroom door. Grant stood in the middle of the bathroom floor with water droplets rolling down the muscle planes of his body. Aubree was paralyzed in place by his appearance in all that God had blessed him with in his bronze glory.

Grant was more than she could imagine, and she refused to allow proper decorum to prevail taking in everything that made him all male. She understood why Celeste was ready to shut down anything between them because she wasn’t going to allow anyone to sample the goods. Thick, long, and heavy with the vein running along the side; she just wanted to see if she could handle what he was working with. While taking in his crown jewels, Aubree forgot she was in her birthday suit giving Grant as good as he gave. Aubree apologized and walked out of the bathroom. She was shook the whole night and had to have a few self-care sessions with her rose and grand magic stick.

“We keep having these awkward unsettling moments that I don’t think I can continue to act like I’m not ready to give myself to Grant,” Aubree sighed.

“So, give in and let that man take you out of your misery. How many years has it been since a man pleased your body with so much uncontrolled pleasure that you lose your ability to walk and talk?” Nova purred.

Ivy nodded. “This is the only time I am going to say this, but I agree with Freaky-Deaky over here. Let Grant have his way with you. I know you have about five years of backup that needs to be released.”

“But he hasn’t said that he wants me in that way.”

“Not yet. He wants you, and I can assure you the next time you have a moment with him your clothes will be on the floor before saying his name.” Nova winked.

As the drinks and food flowed, Aubree shifted the conversation from Grant to other topics. She didn’t want to spend the entire night talking about what she would never have in her life. There was a goal that she had to accomplished that did not include a man nor a relationship. The expense of being in a relationship was detrimental to her livelihood, and she was not willing to sacrifice herself anymore. For now, Aubree would just have to live in a fantasy world of what could be instead of pursuing what would never be.

“For now…”

Live in the present, the now, because life wouldn’t allow the after to happen.

Chapter 15

“Alright Mr. Hollings, I’m gone for the day. Have a great weekend and try to get some rest. This work will be here on Monday.” Tracey smiled. Tracey had been his personal assistant for the past five years. Hiring her had been the best choice when he was promoted to VP of Operations.

“You are right; this can wait. I have a free weekend, and I am going to enjoy my time alone.” Grant began to gather his belongings and shut down his computers. Tracey was right; the work would be here, but now he could use this time to do what he wanted, maybe call Celeste. Hollings Holdings was becoming a mental chess game constantly trying to figure out Grant Sr.’s wrong doings and his next move to outsmart him. Grant would let loose this weekend, enjoy a little female companionship, and invite Cameron and Roland over to watch the game.

Watching the traffic speed by, Grant’s thoughts shifted to Aubree. Aubree had become a permanent fixture in his house and his life. The nanny job was only temporary, short term, but with Mrs. B leaving to take care of her sister, Aubree was now live-in full time. Most weekends she went home to spend the weekend with her grandmother unless Chanel had a special rehearsal. Aubree was everywhere in the house from her tennis shoes, purses, dance bags, to her scent. Grant couldn’t escape Aubree if he tried. But the real question was if he wanted to escape her presence. Grant brought in additional staff, a housekeeper and chef, to continue with the house duties Mrs. B supervised so Aubree could focus on Chanel. Chanel loved having Aubree with her every day and expressed that to Grant, Allie, and his parents constantly. But something had to give soon because he didn’t know how long he could manage the employer-employee relationship.

If Grant was honest with himself, he enjoyed having Aubree around the house daily. She was a breath of fresh air and brought new life to the house. The baking sessions, salon visits for manicures and pedicures, and slumber parties were things that girls should experience with their mother. Now Chanel had someone to share those experiences with outside of Allie and Katherine. Some of his mother’s child rearing theories were outdated, and Allie’s focus was being the fun-loving auntie, but Aubree knew what little girls Chanel’s age loved, and she knew when boundaries had to be put in place. Aubree took care of Chanel like a birth mother should; prepping school clothes and adding little extra touches like hair bows, frilly socks, and earrings. There wasn’t much that Aubree didn’t take care of concerning Chanel, and Grant was glad that Aubree stepped up without asking especially when it came to Chanel’s hair.

Aubree began to do little things for him too without asking. She made sure his dry cleaning was picked up on time, making sure he had a dinner plate waiting if he missed dinner, brought his favorite flavor of ice cream, put his work file in his office. The little things that mattered to him. Aubree would give without him asking her for anything in return.

Most evenings she was working in the dance studio preparing for the dance teams she coached or researching grants to fund a performing art center she wanted to open. One night he overheard her phone conversation with a man named Davis. She was updating him on her life and were she stood on starting the center. From her conversation she sounded uncertain of securing funding at this point and told Davis that they would have to put the plans on hold again for an indefinite period of time. Grant didn’t want to pry but there were things that remained a mystery to him when it came to Aubree. After she ended the call, Grant went to spend some time with her.
