“Oh, God. Oh, God. No more,” I beg him, so damn tired now. He chuckles in my ear and picks me up.

“Come on baby. Go back to sleep. The Monarch League will be there tomorrow.” It's true and I would rather be here in his arms like this.

Chapter Three

Dalton

Sir, the Secretary of Defense is here.” Shit. I forgot our meeting was for today. My mind has been solely on my girl, currently still in bed resting because she is under the weather.

“Send him in Celia.” Standing, I walk around my desk and toward the door. Fucking bureaucrats get pissy if you don’t treat them like royalty.

“Sir, it is a pleasure to see you again.”

“Same Mr. President. Have you met Amelia Cordona?” I shake the hand of the young lady at his side, giving me her version of seductive eyes. It takes a lot of willpower to school my scowl and hide it.

“I don’t believe I have. Nice to meet you. Please, won’t you both be seated.” Swiftly I move behind my desk and without thinking I put up my cellphone to check and see if she has texted me. I hate not being by her side while she is ill, but I told her to text me if she needs anything.

“Mr. President, may we proceed?” Damn it. I forgot they are sitting here.

“Yes, please. What was the nature of the visit?” Him and the young lady look at one another before he turns to address me.

“Miss Cordona is a U.S. citizen, but her entire family is in the Ukraine. She has attempted to apply for emergency visas for them to flee the war zone area and come here, but her Uncle and two of her male cousins have been denied due to Interpol clearances. Seems they were arrested and under suspicion for smuggling weapons into the war zone.”

“I see. So you have come to my office hoping for what?” He pulls his collar and sits up straighter. I watch him wipe his hands on his pant leg.

“Well Mr. President, you have considerable influence with Asylee’s and the assistance. We were hoping..” I hold my hand up, halting his plea.

“Were they smuggling weapons?” The young lady looks down and is no longer making eye contact with me. “Well?”

“Sir, yes, but they are trying to..” Once again my hand shoots up. I don’t interfere on matters of law and order if just.

“Then there is nothing else to discuss. We do not condone law breaking for any reason, Defense Secretary Moore. You of all people know this. May I ask why you have wasted my time coming here when you knew the answer?” His gaze slides to the young lady who, now that I am paying attention, is sitting too close to him. During the conversation her gaze would slip to his and though it is subtle, I noted a couple times she would lick her lips when he would falter on information. Understanding dawns. “I see. Well I am sorry you promised something to your young paramour you couldn’t deliver but this office is not to be used for sexual persuasion. Now if you have nothing else, I have a staff meeting.” I stand so the dismissal is clear. I watch her sulk out of the office behind him and shut the door, leaning against it, irritated.

Looking at my watch, I see I have twenty minutes before my next meeting. Leaving my office to go to my en suite, I run right into her father. “Dalton. Where are you off too in a hurry?” Shit.

“Just taking a little headache break for a minute. What’s up?”

“I have been looking for my little girl. No one has seen her today. I know she is technically not your intern anymore, but have you heard from her?” Fuck hell. I feel like a teenage boy trying to hide his hard-on for the daughter of a man standing in front of him. It’s kind of true though.

“Briefly. She said something about an appointment. She was under the weather.”

“Oh. I better call her and see if she needs anything.” I nod my head and move away from him. I walk faster toward my room, hoping to make it to her before he reaches her to warn her, but when I walk in I know I am late.

“Yeah daddy. Probably just the flu. Just a couple of days. I promise if I am not better I will go to the doctor. No, I am staying with a friend from school for a few days. I love you too daddy.” She hangs up and looks at me in censure. “Really, D? You told my dad I’m sick?” I walk slowly toward the bed giving her my best puppy dog look, I bend down and kiss her pale face.

“I’m sorry, angel. He cornered me in the hallway. I was breaking out in a sweat trying to figure out what to tell him?” She smirks a bit letting me know she is going to give me shit.
