“What’s going on?” she asked.

“What do you mean?”

“Your behavior is odd.”

I raised a brow. “You’ve known me for twenty-four hours, and you’re assessing my behavior?” I skirted around her and went into the conference room.

When she joined us, that she wouldn’t look at me almost made me rethink the harsh way I’d spoken to her. But after repeating the lecture I’d given myself in the men’s room in my head, I knew distancing myself from anything personal with her was imperative.

“Are we finished for today?” I asked, looking around the table and being met with wide eyes from everyone seated at it. “Nemesis, I believe you have housekeeping that needs to be taken care of.”

I regretted that particular word as soon as I said it, especially when she scowled at me.

“What I mean is I believe Z is looking for you.”

I gathered my stuff and left the room.

“Ares?” I heard Cayman say as I stalked in the direction of the elevator.

“What?” I snapped without turning around.

“Z said we’re approved to proceed forward with the plan to move the operation to Shere.”

“That’s right.”

“When would you like to do so?”

“How’s right now?”

He did the nervous-tic-shrug thing. “Uh, sure.”

“Do you have a vehicle here?”

“Affirmative.”

“We’ll swing by my hotel, pick up my things, then head down there. The rest of the team can follow when they’re ready.”

“Roger that.”

“Wait,” I said when we reached the parking garage. “Sorry, I should’ve asked when you want to make the move.”

“I don’t know all that went on in the last hour, but I am more than happy to just get the hell out of Vauxhall Cross.”

“Agreed. You hungry?”

“Famished.”

“I hear there’s a pretty good Portuguese place not far from here.”

Cayman nodded. “One of my favorite spots.”

“They serve alcohol?”

He raised a brow.

“What? I’m done with work for the day. How about you?”

“You asked if they served spirits.”
