“Given her full name is Kennedy King-Alexander, I can attest she is flesh and blood. Flesh of my flesh, so to speak. Also wise for you to keep in mind, my daughter is married to Wilder Whittaker and the two formed a consultancy shortly after their union.”

“Are they consulting with the UK’s task force?”

“Not in an official capacity—yet.”

“Understood.”

“Now, would you care to meet Cayman and Puck?”

“Should I assume you’ll be eavesdropping on all conversations?”

He laughed. “Only when your voices are raised. Which you’d also do well to quell.”

“Roger that,” I said, chuckling. “On the same subject, I’d like to make a suggestion based on my last assignment.”

“Go on.”

“A remote workplace.”

Z raised a brow. “What do you have in mind?”

“Anywhere that would allow for security measures to be put in place. We made use of a lakeside cabin for the serial killer profile team I was on.”

“Run it up your chain of command with my blessing.”

“Roger that.”

“Follow me, and I’ll get you acquainted with two of the guys on Nemesis’ team.”

Z led me into a shared office and introduced me to Winston “Cayman” Trace and Sven “Puck” Lindstrom.

“I understand you’re the grandson of the hockey great,” I said to the latter, “and that you played pro yourself?”

“Not quite as good as my pops,” Puck responded. “But then, the game is quite different than it was back in his day.”

“Cayman,” I said, reaching over to shake his hand. “I was hoping one of you would be willing to visit Purfleet with me, as well as where the containers were ultimately raided.”

“I can do,” offered Cayman. “Puck is working on tracking their origin.”

“Copy that,” I responded.

“Ares mentioned finding a remote workplace to conduct this investigation,” Z informed them.

“If we don’t, I’ll soon be begging to return to the fifth floor,” Cayman commented.

“When I suggested Nemesis move into our area, Cayman and Puck came along. However, we didn’t have enough space to accommodate each with their own office,” Z explained.

“Good thing neither of them had to share with her,” I muttered.

Cayman laughed. “Evidently, you’ve seen her office.”

“Gentlemen,” Z admonished.

“Come on, you have to admit she’s an organizational nightmare,” I said.

“She may look it, but I can assure you she’s able to lay her hands on any given piece of information she needs within mere moments,” said Cayman.

I shook my head and laughed. “There is no way I buy that.”
