“Actually, when I told Baxter what was happening, he opened up a storage container he has at the site and put this one on the UTV. He said to come and get another one later, he has four there. In case one of his goes out.”

“Nice. We’ll get a couple of them ordered and replace them.”

Aidyn drove them to the house and they unloaded the generator. He waved them off. “I can get this set up. You go in and introduce Lara to everyone else.”

He took Lara’s hand and walked her to the back door and inside the darkened house. Adelaide sat at the dining room table researching something on the internet.

“Hey, Addy. This is Lara. Lara, this is Adelaide Masters. Adelaide is actually our team medic, but she’s also a crack researcher.”

Adelaide chuckled. “I don’t know about crack, but I do alright. Nice to meet you, Lara.”

“What are you researching?”

“Spencer asked me to research the three types of scramblers and put together a report on them. I’m using my phone as a hotspot until we get the generator hooked up.”

“Aidyn already told you about the generator?”

“Oh, he’s all kinds of proud of his find. Actually, Baxter’s forethought.”

He smiled at Lara. “Lara will be here until we can secure her bakery and her house.”

“That’s a good idea. One or two of us are always home. You’ll be safe here, Lara.”

Lara smiled. “Thank you, Adelaide.”

Spencer clumped down the stairs. “Hey there, Lara. Nice of you to stop over.”

Tate grinned. “Lara’s staying here until things settle down with the BRR.”

“Great idea.”

Spencer stumbled through to the kitchen; the crutches made his movements cumbersome. “Anyone ordering dinner?”

Tate laughed. “I’ll order from the diner.”

He turned to Lara. “Maybe you can help me find someone who will come in and cook about four days a week. I’m afraid we’re helpless in that area.”

“I’ll cook. I don’t mind.”

“I didn’t bring you here to cook, Lara.”

“Well, if I have to be here, I may as well have something to do. But I promise to help you find someone long term.”

He leaned in and kissed her lips, and Adelaide grinned behind Lara’s back. Lara’s cheeks turned an adorable pink, and he liked the color on her immensely.

The lights flickered and then came on, and Adelaide and Spencer cheered.

Tate turned to the kitchen, bringing Lara along with him. “You’ll find everything you need to cook with in here. At least, that’s what we were told. Whatever groceries you need, call and have them delivered.”

He pulled his credit card from his wallet and handed it to her.

“Use this to buy food. You can ask them to keep it on file if they do that.”

She smiled. “Okay. So, let me dig right in. What do you want for supper?”

Adelaide called out. “Something besides pizza. I’m sick of pizza.”

Spencer turned from digging in the refrigerator. “I have to agree with her. Wings. Meatloaf. Whatever today’s special is.” He closed the door. “Also, I found a vehicle for us to use. I’m on my way to look at it in a few minutes.”
