It was, too. A dark gray, one-shouldered, beaded bodice dress with a full skirt. And with her coloring, her dark hair and creamy skin, she would be the belle of the ball.

Shianne pulled the dress from the door and held it before her. She twirled around just as Spencer limped through the front door.

He gawked, while Shianne’s cheeks turned a beautiful pink.

Lara grinned. “That’s her dress for the Ball. Isn’t it gorgeous?”

Spencer nodded. He shuffled his feet, then said, “Ah. Yes. Gorgeous.”

He shook the stunned look from his face and said, “I brought the generator. I need access to the basement, and can you show me your power panel?”

“Sure.” She glanced at Shianne and escorted him to the back door. Next to the back door was an alcove. Inside was the door to the basement.

She stopped before going down the steps. “Can you do this?”

“Yeah. It’s not graceful, but I can manage. Henry will do all the heavy lifting though.”

She led the way downstairs, flipping lights on as she went, then pointed to the far wall. “That’s the power panel there.”

He managed the stairs by using the railings on either side and lifting his body down. “Perfect. It’ll take me about an hour.”

“I’ll be upstairs if you need anything.”

She ascended the stairs and found Shianne zipping her dress into the bag, her cheeks still bright pink.

“I’ve hardly said two words to him since we made this date, and I don’t know what to say.”

Lara laughed. “You are never one to not know what to say. What would you say to anyone else?”

She put her hand on her hip. “Hey, what do you think of those BRR bastards?”

“Well, since they’re battling them, that would work.”

Shianne blew out a big breath and moved her bangs off her face.

“I’m worrying about nothing. I’ll get back to work and see you later. What time are Tate’s parents arriving?”

“I don’t know. He mentioned that it’s about a four-hour drive. So, if they leave by noon, they’ll be here at four.”

“Where are they staying?”

“At the house. Tate’s coming to my house.”

“No way!” Shianne hugged her. “You still didn’t tell me all about it.”

“I’m not going to. Suffice it to say, it’s personal. And, it’s too new.”

Chapter39

Tate called the sheriff as he drove to the base.

“Twice in a morning, Mr. Vickers.”

“Yes. I’d like to set up a meeting with the president of the BRR, yourself, and the mayor. Do you have a way to do that?”

“Why do you want to do that?”

“Look, we can play these tit-for-tat games all day long, but it gets us nowhere. Sitting down and having a dialog with them seems to be the way to go. No one has to be a go-between and it seems the most expeditious way to get this all done.”
