Addy waved to him. “I’ll see you back at the HOG.”

He nodded. “Thanks, Addy.”

Kenna’s eyes rounded. At least as much as they could round with the swelling.

He held his hand out. “Need help standing?”

“No. I’m good.” She tried, wobbled, and fell hard on the chair. She let out an “oof” when she landed. He saw her swallow and her right hand wrapped around her left rib cage.

He stepped closer. “Take my hand.”

He held his hand out to her, and she stared at it for a moment, then rested her right hand in his right. He closed his fingers around hers and stiffened so she’d have something solid to help her stand. She had to be getting sore as the adrenaline left her body. It would be a rough night.

She exhaled and struggled up to a standing position. A slight grunt sounded from somewhere deep inside. Once standing, she stood stock-still and he let her get her bearings. Holding her hand was nice. It fit in his hand. He liked the feel of her warm skin against his. He marveled at the size difference between his hand and hers.

She inhaled deeply. Slowly. Then she took a step away from the chair and he heard her intake of breath. She took another, and he knew her pain had increased.

“Let me drive you home tonight. We’ll come back and get your Jeep tomorrow or I can have one of my teammates come and get it and I’ll take them home.”

“I can drive.”

“It’s a stick shift, isn’t it?”

“Yeah.”

“Kenna?” he snapped.

She stopped and turned her head. “Honey, let me drive you home. Your eyes are swollen. You can barely move. You’re sore. I’ll get you home safely. Get you some ibuprofen, maybe some hot tea, and you can get some rest while you wait for your mom to get to your place.”

She took another stubborn step and winced. He moved in front of her and looked into her eyes. “Let me help you.”

She swallowed, and he saw the indecision in her eyes. Her eyes darted across the room to the wall and then back to him. He grinned and squeezed her hand gently. “Come on, let’s get you home.”

She seemed to feel relieved she didn’t have to decide and allowed him to help her out of the trailer. The descent down the three metal steps seemed difficult for her, but she never complained. He just followed her lead with the speed at which they moved. Which was slower than a damned turtle crossing the road.

Once on the ground, they dragged along toward their vehicles and he moved her toward his. She looked up into his eyes and he smiled. “It’ll be fine. Where are your keys?”

“In the Jeep. I didn’t take them out.”

“Okay. I’ll get them in a minute.” It would be many more minutes, for sure.

Their forward progress was slow, painfully slow. But they finally made it to his truck, and she froze. He opened the door and the power running boards dropped and he saw her relax.

“Okay. First foot on the board. Step up. Hand on my shoulder for support and slide yourself onto the seat.”

She followed his instructions and finally got herself into the seat. He pulled her seatbelt around her body and clicked it into place. His shoulder brushed her breasts.

Perv.He chastised himself for thinking thoughts not entirely pure as he helped an injured woman into his truck. A beautiful, injured woman. An incredibly beautiful woman. He let out a breath at the direction of his thoughts and stood back.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded slowly, and he grinned. “I’m going to park your Jeep over there.” He pointed to the other vehicles. “Then I’ll be right back.”

“Okay,” she all but whispered.

He stalked over to her Jeep, not feeling very proud of himself, but, well, what could he do? She didn’t know the direction of his thoughts.

After parking her Jeep, he made his way to his truck and climbed inside behind the steering wheel. Backing from his parking space, he turned to look at her. “Where do you live?”
