“Don’t put makeup on.”

Her eyes widened. But he continued. “He needs to see what they did to you. They all do. You’ll be safe. We won’t let anything happen. Spencer, you come with her.”

Without waiting for a response, Tate left the room, and she felt the throbbing in her head once again.

Addy whispered, “Ready for me to take a look?”

Spencer finished fishing a wire through the wall of Kenna’s entryway. He’d wired the front cameras, the back cameras, and on all sides of the building outside. Now he was running the wires to her upstairs entry door, where he’d put another control panel.

“Why don’t you run the wires outside and tuck them in a conduit or something?” she asked.

“This way, they can’t be cut.”

Her eyes rounded, and he grinned at her. Tapping his forehead with his forefinger, he chuckled. “I have a method to my madness.”

She smiled and nodded. “I can see that.”

She’d brought her laptop upstairs and locked up the business doors for the day. She could receive emails and phone calls, but she didn’t want to see anyone.

She called Attorney Murphy and said that she had delivered the paperwork to Craig the prior day. She worked quietly and efficiently, and he enjoyed listening to her contact clients and arrange for affidavits or other services.

He tried not making a mess but pulling wires through insulation in the walls was messy business. He’d have to vacuum when he finished. He hated vacuuming.

His phone timer went off. Kenna was seated at the kitchen table. She’d put on a pair of shorts as the afternoon heated. Though her knees were bruised where she fell yesterday, she had nice legs. Smooth skin and shapely calves. He hadn’t noticed a woman’s calves in, well, ever.

“We have to get ready to head to the Sheriff’s Department, Kenna.”

Her eyes looked up from her computer and her pretty lips formed a straight line before she closed the lid on her laptop. He brushed his hands together to remove the dust and moved toward her.

“I’ll be with you the entire time.”

She stood, less pained now than earlier, which was a bonus. “I know. I appreciate that.”

He watched as she walked past him to her bedroom. She had a nice ass, too. Her long, dark, thick hair swung behind her and trailed down her back. She was stunning. Brunettes were his favorite. Green-eyed brunettes, well those ladies intrigued him immensely.

He turned toward the wires he’d been pulling and decided to at least hook up the control panel while she prepared to go. That was the easiest part of the installation. The hardest was setting everything up on the apps.

Kenna stepped from the bedroom, looking fresh and beautiful. Despite the bruising and swelling on her face, she was a vision. She’d changed into dress slacks that hung loosely over her legs and a yellow short-sleeved blouse that mingled with her coloring perfectly.

He stared a bit too long, and she fidgeted. “Is this...”

“You look stunning.”

“I’m sure.” Her hand touched the right side of her face.

“You do. You have the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen.”

Her cheeks turned pink, and that added more to her already-gorgeous appearance.

She nodded and heaved out a deep breath.

Holding his hands up, he shook his head. “Just let me wash my hands.”

He turned to the sink and squirted soap from the dispenser and washed the dust and insulation off his hands and arms before approaching her.

She tipped her head up to look into his eyes. He licked his lips and softly touched them to hers. He held his lips to hers for a few moments, then pulled away. Her arms wrapped around his waist and she laid her head against his chest. Gently, he wrapped his arms around her and they stood together, steady, solid, for a few moments.
